Summerfest
http://www.summerfest.com/
Do you go?
I went a couple of times in the 70's and once in the 90's with a friend and her 11-year old son. I don't do well with crowds, or heat, or hyper-excited kids.
I've been to the Marcus Amphitheater a number of times for concerts. I'm OK with that. It's just all the people, people, PEOPLE at Summerfest that drives me nuts.
When I was there in the 90's, I somehow ended up agreeing to a ride on The Zipper. I must've been out of my mind. As the attendant locked me and my friend in, he said nothing about my glasses or the camera dangling from my neck. As soon as the ride started, both were airborne, slamming around against the inside of the cage. I shut my eyes and prayed. After it ended and I was off of the ride, I had to sit down for a few minutes. Just one more reson for me to stay away. And I can't afford it, anyway.
Never been. I'd love the music, but it is all the people, people, people that would get to me too. The trouble is that the better music is playing at night. I could probably handle the place during the day, but not with the night crowd.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the bands, but over the years, it has become too crowded with way too many drinks. Once the sun goes down, there are less people, but more drunks. Did I mention that there are drunks?
ReplyDeleteIf not, let me write it again: Too many drunks and they keep getting served.
I was at Summer Fest once, that was enough for me, but then again I was there in the later afternoon to early evening and on a weekend. So many people it took a very long to get a refreshment, then you might as well walk right to the line for the restroom, because they where just a bad.
ReplyDeleteI would rather go to the outdoor....
I've been to Summerfest many times.Saw many great bands play there over the years.Yes,the place has it's problems.Bad parking, getting out of there is a major hassle, and of course, the drunks.I think it's worth it to see a great band play.
ReplyDeleteI might go see Rush tonight.
WE go to Summerfest once each year. I wouldn't go at all but it's something my husband enjoys, so I go along. I think the comments made by others are all valid except the one about parking/transport. Use the many park and ride lots available and there is nothing to it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean to sound as down on the event as it reads. I have a personal thing with crowds. Any big celebration is, of course, going to of have a lot of people. That's what it's all about.
ReplyDeleteIf there was music there I wanted to hear/see, I'd go. But just for that, not to wander about.
I do wonder if the economy is going to affect attendance/sales.
Who needs Summerfest when the Sex Pistols played tonight at the North Beach Oasis?
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that they're playing on the beach house circuit.
ReplyDeleteIt was the teen punk band,The Reinforcements that played at the beach last night-not the Sex Pistols.
