I can not vouch for the authenticity of this, but the person I got it from has a son in Iraq currently. I checked snopes for this and they have nothing yet.... Interesting if it is true. I am not printing the name of the solder who sent it.

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened.
He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.
So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.
I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.
In service,

After reading so many false accusations against Obama, I am hesitant to believe this one. I, too, checked Snopes and there is nothing there yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd b/4 someone gets all fired up, I am not endorsing him, I am just wondering if this is real or not.
What I have found so interesting this election year is how the internet has been used to besmirch people's character. Whether you be McCain, Obama or Clinton....Smear campaigns regardless of the venue are smear campaigns...mud slinging has not changed in the last 50 years, just the methods used...
No need to hide the name, Stu. A simple google search turns up a site that gives his name as Captain Jeffrey S. Porter. Found it on several other sites...all posted today, so Snopes not having anything yet really can't tell you much one way or the other (usually takes at least a few days for them to get a response up). I also suspect this will be a tough one to verify or debunk one way or the other as to whether this person wrote the letter. I googled him, but the only hits that showed up were...this letter. Again, I don't consider that evidence one way or another since a lot of people have limited hits in a google search
ReplyDeleteI am pretty wary of anonymous forwarded emails...we have had some pretty bad anti-Obama ones floating around so I will stay skeptical.
I'm assuming this letter to be a hoax until it is verified.
ReplyDeleteIn Obama's defense...I would think it would be difficult to visit soldiers who are risking their lives when you believe that this war should never have taken place in the first place.
Obama has been very open about that. His plan, if he is elected, is to withdrawal troops from Iraq and move them where he feels the true problems with terrorism exist. He can't come out and say, "you guys shouldn't even be here." Pretty difficult situation to be in.
It doesn't mean he couldn't shake their hands and say what an honorable thing they are doing though. The soldiers are serving their country. No one begrudges that. It isn't their fault.
I guess we will know more in a few days whether this is real?
It's fake.
ReplyDeleteBesides the dubious sourcing of an officer sending out a political mass email, whoever wrote this didn't do their research.
The pictures and video of Obama playing basketball were taken in Camp Arifjan in Kuwait... not in Afghanistan.
Though he went to Afghanistan on the same trip, the writer of this phony chain email failed to pay attention.
First time I've ever seen the rank of "Battle Captain". Last I knew, there was only "Captain", one rank above 1st Lieutenant.
ReplyDeleteThe political discourse in this country has been reduced to phony nonsense floating around the internet. The Clintons picked up on this many years ago and have used it to their advantage.
Any right thinking person should be highly cynical of anything they see from a source that cannot be verified.
The main reason I think this is false: Obama is not stupid. I probably won't be voting for him, but he is not dumb enough to snub the military and bring down a load of bad press on himself.
Well, sure didn't take long for this one to be debunked by Snopes.
ReplyDeleteAgain, don't believe everything you read in anonymous, forwarded emails. Come to think of it, it's probably not a good idea to believe ANYTHING in these emails unless you can verify it.
