Seeing More Rummage Sales?
I think I am. I've never paid much attention, but it seems to me that I'm seeing more rummage, garage, and yard sales than before. I assume it's a sign of the economic times.
I have a friend in Milwuakee who shops the secondhand stores and rummage sales regularly for items to sell on eBay (and to add to his own prodigious collection of junk). I asked him if he is seeing more rummage sales. His answer: "Definitely." He always gets good deals. He has a knack for it. Now, he's getting great deals.
Actually, I'm lucky to be limited in my storage to what I can fit in my closets and a bin downstairs. Before my mother moved, I had access to a single car garage. Over the years, I completely cleaned that thing out at least three times. Each time, it filled back up again with my junk. If I had more room, I'd probably be out at those sales, too.

I've bought a huge part of my album collection through rummage sales and thrift shops.Found many hidden treasures.Among them were original copies of Beatles "Second Album" and Rolling Stones "Let It Bleed"(poster included!)-for a quarter each.
Yeah, my buddy is into vinyl. He's acquired tons of stuff the same way. Lots of 45s, too.
I once bought a Helly Hansen winter jacket at a thrift store for $5. The BEST winter jacket I've ever owned. Wore it for over a decade, until the zippers fell out and the sleeves had holes.
I'm a big fan of thrift shops.
When my kids were growing up, we went every weekend. Must have saved thousands of dollars on toys and clothing. I found some really neat things for the house and myself.
I gave up on having them though. Seems that people only want to take advantage of you now; only are willing to pay a quarter for a brand new pair of jeans. At that rate, I'd rather skip the work and hassle and just donate it all to goodwill. I've had groups of people show up and steal things too. Really don't need that.
I love rummage sales, but at the same time I'm trying to downsize our stuff so it's also very hard for me to not cave in and get more stuff that in a couple years will just be thinned down too.
When my girls were little, almost all their clothes came from rummage sales, there was so much available and really good stuff. Now they're older and picky, no more fun...
Here in our small town it seems everyone is having rummage sales. I also see a lot of ATVs and snowmobiles in front yards. As the economy gets worse and gas gets more expensive people are trying to make some money. I have gotten some great deals on things. I tried to clean out the house some and found that no one has the money to buy anything so I donated a ton of stuff.
I talked to my Milwaukee friend again last night, and mentioned that I'd blogged about him. He again emphasized the "great deals" to be had at current rummage sales. So, yeah, I pointed out that's good news only if you have the money to buy the stuff (and need the stuff - when I have the money, I'm tempted to buy more junk).
Orbs, what did you do...stir the city up?
