A local priest wants to open a daycare center in Rochester in the woods down a loooong unmarked service road, staffed by nuns from all over the world (Africa, Poland, etc-- he currently uses them to make items to sell as fundraisers; pretty much free labor, which I guess is who would be watching the kids).
Is it just me, or is this completely creepy?
I also heard that the original plans include bedrooms and only 6 parking spots for a center to accomodate 40 kids.
Strange.

It is being presented to the public as the nuns are looking for charity work to do. It seems that you know more about this or don't believe it is their pursuit, but the priest that is propelling this instead. (you say the priest USES these nuns)
At first glance, one would think their children would be exposed to different cultures, which could be a good thing. On the other hand, why would a day care facility need individual bedrooms? I don't really know enough about it to fairly make a judgment call.

I vote completely creepy.
The property has existed for years as a fundraising venture for the Franciscan Mission, no more, and no less. The property houses several large warehouses of items (check out the website: books, clocks, honey-- there are over 20 large beehives in close proximity to the proposed site that the priest maintains-- hope the kids carry their own epi pens!) that the nuns make and sell for the mission; the priest brings the nuns here to the states to work for him, and you almost never see the nuns.... the priest is a conniving sort of guy, swears a lot, gives me the willies.
I dunno, it just makes me uncomfortable that something like this is proposed with nary a concern by ANYBODY, as if it's perfectly natural to have daycare centers built far off the road in the woods (by an organization well known for it's abuse of children). ***Shudder***
I think the demeanor of this guy is suspect. If everything is on the up and up, there should be no problem answering the questions of the community.
Hopefully, people will become concerned and involved enough to ask the questions that are needed before allowing this to proceed.
I wouldn't want kids around a guy who swears a lot. There does seem to be some red flags here, including the isolated location and lack of certification of the potential caregivers. You make a point, what will happen to the buildings if they can't pass inspection to be a daycare facility?
