Birthdays...

Sooo........ My X (shhhhhhh) birthday is coming up this weekend. Not sure when I started to not look forward to my birthdays. Guess I should be happy I'm still here, yes?
Eh... doesn't do much for me anymore. I've never really liked birthdays. The free drinks are nice. :)
But all the fuss.. forget it. it's just another day to remind me I'm getting old.
When I was a kid I remember thinking that I'll never be 30!!!!! Passed that milestone and guess what? I'm still here!
People ask me what do I want for my birthday. I don't really like cake. It kinda grosses me out for some reason.
So.. my wish is to take a trip to stay with my FIL and his wife, up north. Just to get away and because I know he won't be around forever.
Used to be .. have a party! Now, the best time I have is sitting in front of a fire with Dad. My Dad has been dead for many years now, and I never had the relationship with him that I have with my FIL now. He's pretty amazing. 76 years old and I keep him up until 3 in the morning talking and watching fireworks and throwing more wood on the fire.
He loves my dog Minnie and cracks up at her antics in the lake. She loves him too.
When ya get older things mean more to you. I want to go up north for me. But also because Dad enjoys us coming up. My DH works too much to be able to get away very often.
But I'm making sure we do this this weekend.

oh.. and I love going there and looking at the clear skies and all the stars. Last time we were there I saw 3 shooting stars!

Guess I am rambling.

My first blog here... and I sound like an idiot. LOL.

How do YOU celebrate your birthdays?

Nice to see you blogging :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always take the day off, and sleep in. I don't cook that day, and I avoid doing anything around the house. It's so hard for me to take a day for just me, don't know why I always feel guilty for doing things for ME, crazy hey?? and I have to make my own cake.... I just try to enjoy it before it's over :)

Happy XXXX Birthday. I loved your blog. How lucky you are to have found such a good companion in your father-in-law. What a gift! Good for you for realizing and enjoying it. p.s. he sounds lucky to have you too!

iF YOU ADD ALL THE x'S THAT (once again! caps!) adds up to 40. Mmmmmm To tell the truth I am 69 and my best years, looking back, were from 40 to 50. I had the best time then. Have a great day..and year. I figure I'll live to 82 so there are many things to do..start making a list. Bucket list? Mine was to go on a balloon ride, pet one of the Clydesdale horses and pet a real wild whale. I have accomplished two of them. Again Happy happy birthday.

DA, happy, happy birthday. You are celebrating life correctly. Enjoy your FIL and Minnie's antics.

I will raise my glass in your honor this weekend. Enjoy yourself.

Give Minnie a hug for me....I, too, enjoy her antics as shared through your blogs and e-mails.

It's just another day of the week for me, go to work take out the garbage what ever is on the list.
The only thing special is I get to pick where dinner is that night. However I usually have to pick up the tab. I get to go up by my father in laws place next weekend for 4 days, can't wait.

I'm 57 and birthdays stopped meaning anything much years ago. I'll tell you one thing, though: I didn't start to feel old at 40. 50 was more or less the "mental marker" for me. Arthritis started acting up, I got CRS (Can't Remember Shit), and my dad's face started staring back at me from the bathroom mirror. Spooky.

My father died a long time ago and I'm divorced, so I have no father figure. I'm envious DogAddict. Hope you have a great birthday. I know what you mean about the night sky up north - beautiful.

Happy x Birthday........
I just turned 43 and am not ashamed I'll where it like a badge.
I spend my b-day at the pool watching my kids play and I got in with them for awhile and acted like a kid.........Kids where so happy I let loose for awhile, It made my day to see them happy.

Spend all the time with your family you can, when their gone you'll have something to look back on. Great memories are a great gift to yourself.

Happy Birthday DA.

My most recent birthday celebrations have been taking me up to Washington Island to go camping - being it is usually near a holiday weekend the timing is perfect. It usually isn't so much as a celebration as a getaway.

I never used to think much of celebrating until 2 years ago when my parents didn't even call & wish me happy birthday & I never got any cake. Weird, a birthday with no cake! So this past year, I bought my own cake, brought it to my best friends house & her & I and her daughters (my godchildren) celebrated. I was perfect.

I am dreading the big 40 in two years though. Not sure why because I sure don't like the alternative!

20 had to be the toughest so far. I wasn't a teenager anymore!!

Thanks everyone! We all had a great time. Left Friday afternoon and got back this evening.
My FIL had a big campfire set up all ready to be lit. :) He's so sweet.
They got me a cake too, which was a total surprise.

Beautiful sunsets and clear star viewing nights. Gotta love it.
The weather was perfect, too. Not too hot at all!

Not sure how to post pictures here yet, so I hope it's ok to just link to my forum. I have the fire pictures and a couple of sunset pics there. You should all be able to see them as unregistered guests if you are interested in looking.
