Favorite Olympic Moment?

Just trying to get some good conversation going here...here are a few of mine in no particular order.

Swimming: The US victory in the 4x100 meter relay and Phelps incredible finish in the 100 meter fly...wow!

South Korean Park Tae-hwan winning gold in the men's 400 meter freestyle after his embarassing fall into the pool moment in Athens in 2004...redemption stories are alwasy good.

Woman's gymnast Oksana Chusovitina winning silver in the vault at the age of 33 in a sport dominated by people almost 20 years her junior.

Anything Dara Torres did.

Usain Bolt and his amazing 100 meter dash.

I have been only a casual watcher of the Olympics so please add your favorites...I might go and watch a couple of the events streaming online if you post a good one!

I watched the Men's 10,000 meter. Man, those Kenyan and Ethiopian guys can RUN.

Kenenisa Bekele from Ethiopia calmly ran a conservative race, in third or fourth place most of the race.

At the start of the last lap, he just kicked in the afterburners and left EVERYONE, including his countrymate who came in second, Sileshi Sihine, in the dust.

The seven top spots went to either Kenya or Ethiopia with one being a guy from ERI, wherever that is.

I've been enjoying it all. You've named some of the best moments. The variety is very cool. Some of the opening moments were pretty good. Also watched some sports you don't often see like handball, ping pong, white water kayaking. A new addition was the steeplechase run.

The 10,000 meters was also very good. ERI is Eritrea, a small country just north of Ethiopia which fought a war for independence from Ethiopia lasting over 30 years, finally gaining independence in the early '90s.

I was REALLY rooting for a better showing from Abdi Abdirahman. He lives in Tucson and I have run by him a couple of times on my training runs...same with Bernard Legat who didn't even make the finals of the 1500m, but still has a chance in the 5000m.

Another "Olympic Moment" for me. Last spring, I went out for my usual evening run and the US Olympic Women's Softball team was finishing its practice on a field right next to my route. They were lining up for a sprint so I jumped off the sidewalk, lined up at the end and ran a sprint with them (more specifically, behind most of them...hey, I am 40, and they are world class athletes!)

So those are a few of my connections and people I watch with a little more than a casual interest.

I've made a point to skip almost all of the olympics, although I have been watching the medal count. Its a nice concept and all, but I really don't care that much about these sports.
Does that make me a bad American?
