Funny that, I thought it was written by Francis Bellamy in the 1890s. It turns out that Sarah Palin does not agree with me on this one. She seems to think it was written by the Founding Fathers with the "under God" line intact. So where did I find this? Moveon? The Huffington Post? The Daily Kos? Or some other liberal site? Well, not quite. The Eagle Forum Alaska (falling solidly on the right) posted a series of questions to Alaskan candidates for Governor in 2006. In repsonse to a question about the Pledge, Palin responded, "If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance."
This was not a live interview...the questions were SENT to the candidates which shows exactly how much research she did answering it (zero). I would rather have someone who takes time and researches her answers than shoots from the hip...when you shoot from the hip, you never know what you are going to hit!
It is educational to look at her answers to these questions. No wonder the far right likes her!
There's this: (Newser) – Barack Obama has admitted he got his concentration camps mixed up when speaking to a Memorial Day audience, Reuters reports. The candidate spoke of how his great-uncle helped liberate Auschwitz when, as Republicans were quick to point out, that couldn't have happened unless his relative was in the Soviet Red Army. Obama's great-uncle was actually among the American troops who liberated the prisoners at Buchenwald. As a postscript - some of my relatives WERE at Auschwitz - trust me you know the difference - how insulting!!
ReplyDeleteAnd this: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed,” Obama told a crowd of 500 in Richmond on Tuesday: Wow!
Oh and apparently Obama doesn't even know which committees he sits on: Obama Says The U.S. Senate Banking Committee Is "My Committee." Obama: "Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill…" (Obama Press Conference, Sderot, Israel, July 23, 2008)
Obama Is Not A Member Of The U.S. Senate Committee On Banking, Housing, And Urban Affairs. (U.S. Senate Committee On Banking, Housing, And Urban Affairs Website, banking.senate.gov, Accessed 7/23/08) Hmmm, did he think no one would check?
And of course, who could forget this: On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong. Are we to assume Obama doesn't know the meaning of Memorial Day and that fallen heroes are usually in their graves.
And what about this: Obama has as much trouble with numbers as he has with maps. Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Alabama, he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement:
“There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.”
Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965. His spokesman, Bill Burton, later explained that Obama was “speaking metaphorically about the civil rights movement as a whole.” Unbelievable.
or maybe this: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/05/obama-gaffes-on.html
Guessing these are just a few of the many, many reasons why the left likes Obama, eh?
We weren't talking about Obama. Get your own anti obama thread going. This post is about Palin. As such, McCain really shot himself in the foot. I wonder if it's possible for him to back up, claim he made a muistake and get someone better?
ReplyDeleteI really don't want some back woods hick that is mired in myth-as-reality taking over the country if McCain becomes incapacitated.
Oh, I get it. We don't have open discussion on this blog. You can criticize a VP candidate, but similar mistakes cannot be pointed out in the Presidential candidate because he's the "chosen one?"
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want open discourse, I suggest you restrict comments and/or readership to only those that agree with your opinions.
But fear not, I won't waste my time reading this blog, or posting unwanted comments anymore. But I'll be happy to spread the word amongst friends that thought this might be an alternative to the JT that this blog is even worse than the JT in their journalistic bias.
Hold on Anon, I agree and disagree with you. First off, I agree that this posting is BS because the left will now do anything it can to pick on Palin. Im sure blogs in all of the Obamessiah's 57 states are trying the same thing. However, I disagree with the second part of your comment. The JT irregulars blog is set up just so people can voice your opinion and air their biases. We know that Huck and Hale fall far on the left just like they know that I am a right wing wacko. We dont hide that. We dont pretend to be "fair and balanced" We put our biases out there and scream "Here it is, take it or leave it". That is what makes this place so great. We can have discourse, discussions and differences. We can piss each other off. But we can also come together and laugh. To piss on the whole site because you disagree with one opinion is not giving everyone here enough credit for speaking their minds.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, This blog has a heading regarding Palin. Wiith all of the posts denigrating Obama, few lLeft's have resorted to claims that, "WWWWWWWell your side did this or that, so my side can be just as obtuse or worse."
ReplyDeleteDiscussion about a subject is just that. So Obama may or may not be a fool. How in the heck does that change Palin's gaffs? I'm surprised Clinton the womanizer wasn't brought up as a reason for Palin's naivity.
There is no censorship at all, just asking you to debate the subhject at hand and saying if you want to slam Obama, do it in a new thread and we will debate Obama there. Unless there is no excuse for Palin and the Right is desperately trying to smoke screen...
That is something I've noticed. An innate inability to defend the Right's blusterings, so the only defense is to go on the attack. This doesn't work in Junior High Debates, but works flawlessly far too often with adults.
So annonomous, what is your Palin possition, and could you do more than a cut and paste?
Thought you folks might enjoy some local Alaskan commentary on our new VP candidate.
ReplyDeleteAs an Alaskan resident as well as a resident of Wasilla, AK, where Sarah Palin as at one time Mayor. I can speak with confidence. Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is exactly what she portrayed during her introduction this morning and exactly what our US Government needs. She is ethical to a fault (if there is such a thing), a refreshing change to the status-quo and as smart and determined a PERSON (gender really isn't an issue here as far as I’m concerned) as anyone could ask for at the head of government.
Sarah is no naïve 'small town mayor' - she just *started out* there. But, as Mayor of Wasilla, she brought this 'small town' through a lot of GOOD changes and left it at the end of her term having grown to the 4th largest CITY in Alaska - a lot of growth and a stronger economic base than ever before.
She has EXECUTIVE experience *running a government* (something NONE of the other candidates can actually boast, even John McCain) as Governor of Alaska and got there by defeating the *incumbent* Republican Governor, who was definitely part of the 'old school' and who WAS very much in the pocket of the big oil companies. We in Alaska wanted change - and we got it in the person of Sarah Palin!
Sarah Palin is everything she looks to be and more. Her approval rating as Governor of Alaska has been as high as 95% and is currently leveled out consistently in the upper 80 percentile throughout the state (and in both parties) - the HIGHEST approval rating of ANY sitting Governor.
Sarah has been turning around corruption in the Legislature of Alaska - turning things on their ear for that matter; cutting spending in spite of the increased income the state is currently receiving due to the high oil prices - she has insisted on putting a huge amount of the 'windfall' into savings for the future rather than spending, spending, spending - and has insisted from the get- go on what she refers to as 'honest, ethical and transparent governing' - no more closed door meetings and dealings - the big oil companies thought she would be a pushover and have learned better to their chagrin.
She understands the 'real people' and the economic issues we all face (Alaskans along with the rest of the country) - she was one of 'us' not long ago. Rather than passing useless 'laws' or throwing money at pet projects, she (most recently) temporarily suspended the state gas tax (on gasoline at the pumps, fuel oil and natural gas for homes, etc.) and has ordered checks issued to ALL residents of Alaska this fall in an attempt to assist with the burden of high fuel costs for the upcoming winter.
I could go on and on, but that's enough for now “smile”. She isn't doing these things to be popular - she is doing it because her constituents are HURTING financially and she can help.
She became Governor of Alaska by defeating the Incumbent Republican Governor and doing it *without* the money or the support of the Republican Party, which was amazing in itself - and she won by a landslide. The 'powers that be' at that time totally underestimated Sarah and learned better the hard way. She has done exactly what she claimed she was going to do and is just as popular today as the day she was elected - perhaps more so since even the Democrats up here seem to like her - she works well with both sides in the Legislature here.
Sarah 'belongs' to us (Alaskans) ... and although we are going to be terribly sorry to see her leave before she finishes the job she started here (two years ago) straightening out OUR State “grin” ... we understand she is needed for a bigger purpose and hopefully her Lt. Governor will be able to fill her shoes here and continue the job.
As for worrying about what would happen if McCain were to die or step down or whatever ..., up here in AK we've only been wondering how long we would be able to KEEP Sarah in Alaska and have seen her as our first woman President of the USA from the start. It’s always been a matter of whether she would wait until the end of her TWO terms as Governor (no doubt at ALL that she would be re-elected if she ran for a second term at the end of her current term). Or end up in Washington sooner. She could do the job TODAY.
Personally, I feel a lot better about McCain now that I know he has someone as savvy, as strong, as ethical and as steady as Sarah at his back. She will be an excellent Vice President ... and my guess is will be our US Republican Presidential candidate in four years - AND by then the country will KNOW her - will love and
respect her as we do here - and she'll win by as much of a landslide as she did here in Alaska. I only wonder if McCain has a clue what he is unleashing on the US of A “grin”. She is going to be a fresh wind, but also a strong wind.
Is that enough of an endorsement? If not, I'll add this ... Jerry and I have for any years felt the best 'vote' was to vote for the lesser of two 'evils' and hope they didn't do too much damage. Two years ago during our State Governor's race was the first time EVER that we actually asked for not just a little sign to put in our yard showing our support of our candidate (something we've never felt the desire to do at all before) - we asked for a full 4' x 8' 'SARAH PALIN FOR GOVERNOR!' sign and were proud to have it. She hasn't let us or Alaska down. She will do the same for the USA if given the opportunity.
Ser, you are right. I have an Alaskan friend and Alaskans hold Palin up high. They feel some things aren't to be looked at such as the pregnant daughter. Knowing how kids can be at right angles to the best of parenting, holding up a daughter's pregnancy is wrong. I agree.
ReplyDeleteLet's look at two other things right off the top. She has recently needed to hire a lawyer to address issues of unwarranted firing. She was all for Pork when it was all about her state such as the bridge to no where. Now that she's on the McCain ticket, she is against this bridge. Just another flip flopper and from the looks of the legal wrangling, business as usual for the Rep Party.
As for Palin's hubby and a DUI, that was two decades ago. Something from two decades ago isn't really worth wrangling about.
Well said, Stu. Although I still call it criticism instead of picking on :) And let us put the 57 state slip in context.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, if you can't win an argument, change the subject. I COULD go into a length rant about McCain's gaffs and scandals (and living in Arizona I bet I know more about them than you), but this one isn't about him. You know the procedure to post blogs here. Jump on board and have at it...just be ready for the blowback when you post.
Is this what we've come to, where when someone makes a slight gaff, but the meaning still rings true, that the bloggers and media pounce like jackals?
ReplyDeleteReally, does anyone not understand what Governor Palin meant by this remark? She was, of course, referring to the spirit of our founding fathers. Anyone who makes a big deal of this needs to seriously get a life.
If we want to debate her stance on issues, fine. This is just plain nonsense.
Are you sure this was a gaff? It seems evident she thinks the Pledge in it's entirety was with us from the beginning. My concern is what other naive gaff is she carrying with her and will it bite us at an inoportune moment?
ReplyDeleteNotice how I've left her family off limits. That alone is very Left of me. Not at all how I've percieved the Right these past few months. I'll give points though for your observation. Maybe if enough Right start feeling this way and adhere to it we will leave all families out of it.

ReplyDeleteJESUS H CHRIST!!! So Palin says the Pledge of Allegiance was written by the founding fathers and BO says there are 57 states in the Union! Like that is going to make a big frickin' impact when a decision has to be made to push the button or not! If we are basing our vote because a candidate made a gaff, we are a hell of a lot dumber than them both put together
ReplyDeletecount to 10 slowly.
ReplyDeleteYes exactly. I'm not running for president, neither are you. "Leader of the Free World" they say. Okay, if they are falible with the minor issues, do we want to trust them with thebig ones? Seriously, think about it. When the time comes to push that button and they can't chew gum without biting their tongue, (metaphor), do you want them in charge?
Okay, it's well known I'm an atheuist. I don't like Pallin because she is a creationist. Not just a Creationist, but a "4,000 year old earth Creationist." A literal Creationist and the bible isn't just a Myth filled book, but the WORD OF GOD. Do I want her anywhere near that button? NO WAY IN HELL. She'd be fulfilling her God's word, and bringing on Armegeddon.
With her "minor gaffs" as truths, I think she would do WAY more harm than good.
This is a little different from your typical gaff (57 instead of 47). She had the questions mailed to her. Palin had the chance to sit down and write a thoughtful response (or have her staff do it). This is more intellectual laziness than a misspeak. Anyone who has read my posts for a while knows what I think of that!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am one of Huck's non-believing brothers and am not too enthralled with a lot of her stands, including Huck's mention of her creationist views. As long as I am getting into it, any non-Christian who votes for her needs a head exam. You may scoff, but the last two elections have been VERY close and this one could be a threepeat so both sides should carefully consider how many votes they are willing to blow off.
I have the Rev Warren forum on my DVR to watch (have been busy the last few weeks but will catch up). I know that McCain will give me more reasons not to vote for him from what I read about it and probably will find a few to give me pause about Obama as well.
Oh, and before I am blasted for deleting comments, note they were deleted by the author, not me. I didn't even see what they said.
Being a female, you would think I would be thrilled with her appointment.
ReplyDeleteI was totally NOT impressed right from the moment she opened her mouth. She seems very naive. Bringing up her PTA background was a strange choice. I was vice pres of the PTA for years. I would never mention that on my resume or in an interview, let alone put it up as past experience on network T.V.
Using her staunch religious background and beliefs to make her point of view "right" on all accounts, her anti-abortion stance... all of it turned me off immediately. Pictures of her shooting guns does not propel me to see her as a more competent (or manly) candidate. WTH is that all about?
Personally, I think McCain was an honorable soldier, but would be a disaster as president. I think that the kind of mental torture he went through and his history would skew any rational person when it came to making the tough decisions that a president must make.
I don't know his reasons for picking her. Her positions must have hit a target with the special interest voting groups he was lacking in.
There any anti-woman bias in this discussion? It seems that mis-speaks by Obama and Biden are Ok; they do not detract from their ability to lead, but do detract from Governor Palin's?
ReplyDeleteAnd Obama's church affiliation is also Ok, but not Palin's?
All I can say is that Palin is wildly popular in Alaska (can we say that about Doyle?) and has an admirable record of being a tough reformer.
If one cannot attack someone's record, then attack the person. This seems to be de rigueur for the political left.
Whoa. For the political Left? Stop right there. Go read some of the earlier Obama posts. Muslim name, Yada Yada.
ReplyDeleteI'm a liberal I guess because I'm a Feminist. I see their point of view. My stance against Palin has NOTHING to do with her gender.
Either debate the issues, or don't debate. What is so hard about debating issues? I am so tired of talking head rhetoric and claiming the "Oh you must be a liberal." instead of actual intelligent conversation.
Claiming anti-feminism when I came right out and said why I'm against her is knuckle dragging. We aren't at JT, and I'd like us not to debate like TBV. If you don't like what I say, then tell me why I'm wrong. Slinging mud just don't do it for me.
We're irregular, I hope that means we are above those knuckle dragging tactics.
Liberal Press feeding frenzy.
ReplyDeleteForget the anarchist group Hubby belonged to. Heck, I know you guys have given us a bye on what Michele said about proud of her country, right? Let's leave family out of this.
Palin has finally said something that gave her some points. She once smoked pot. I won't even fault her for bogarting that joint back in 1983. So she has made some points with me.
Let's instead talk about her lack of common snese parenting skills. Her daughter's seventeen (17) year old boyfriend is joining them on the ol campaign trail. Looks real good bringing in your under aged daughter's under age fuck buddy. This isn't about family, this is about common sense.
McCain lost his mind on this pick and desperately needs a do over.
Palin took had the guts to take on her own party and did her part to break down the good ol' boys political machine. She didn't have the political connections like a Kennedy. She didn't spend years in as a suck up in a political party. She saw irresponsible government in her itty bitty town of Wasilla, and she did something about it. She saw corruption in her own party at the state level, and she got involved and did something about it. And yes she is the hockey and PTA mom. If she was on the Dem ticket, we would be hearing the swansong of the invovled mother from small town America making an impact. After all, that's the kind of female that would be championed. However, since she is conservative, she isn't qualified to be that kind of female. So all we are going to hear from the ignorant is about the mooseburger grilling backwoods hick from small town Alaska. This one has hit the Dems and moonbats hard because they see the road to Washington for them isn't the cakewalk they anticipated to be.
ReplyDelete"As for Palin's hubby and a DUI, that was two decades ago. Something from two decades ago isn't really worth wrangling about." So why the hell bring it up in the first place Huck? Just another pathetic attempt at character asasination maybe? You must also have gotten the fax from morons dot org regarding the parenting skills. Since his holiness said going after the pregnant daughter was off limits, they had to come up with a new plan. Here it is! Question her judgment and parenting skills to remain in the campaign now that she has a family crisis. Sorry Huck, you're not the first one to use the crock of shit.
Who says misspeaks are ok by Obama or Biden? I've said this before... when it comes to vote, you will vote your way and I will vote my way. I love our country and the ability to cancel someone's vote with whom I don't agree.... ha ha. Sorry, I digress.
ReplyDeleteCan we just agree they are all boobs, whether male or female? We will just vote our conscience as always and choose the lesser of the boobage. Hey, that reminds me of a blog from the past....
Logjam if you're going to take the time to refute a post of mine, read it. I never mentioned beand--dip about Hubby's DUI. I pointed out his membership to a whacko anarchist group.
ReplyDeleteWhy did I even bring it up? For several reasons. EXAMPLE ONLY. It's been said if you go to church long enough, the Church's ministry will affect your judgement. Church is once a week and for a few hours.
When you're married, you end up rubbing elbows a LOT more. Things your hubby may believe in persuade you. This is all tongue in cheek though. I have a good memory of the myths and slurs and indignations. What I'm trying to see is a lack of hypocrisy and holding all at the same level. Indignation for percieved unjusts should be universal shouldn't they?
About Palin's integrity. She accepted a $4,500 donation of legal, but dirty money during her run for Lt. Gov. There was indignation over the land deal, and I agreed it looked bad on O-boy.
Before you say the 4,500 is much smaller in quetionable funds, is any amount really okay? because O-boy did it, Palin get's bye?
But the lack of common sense parenting, flying in a fuck buddy, is a sure sign she is too liberal for the right. Folks if O-boy were in a similar situation, the wolfpack would be chasing down the prey.
I don't think anyone is really indignant over the other side. can't be because blind eyes are turning everywhere.
Huck
ReplyDeleteIt's right here! "As for Palin's hubby and a DUI, that was two decades ago. Something from two decades ago isn't really worth wrangling about." Like hell you didn't mention the DUI!
You may not have expounded on the details but you did bring it up. So if it "isn't really worth wrangling about" why did you even mention it in the first place? Don't say your not digging for a boogger when your finger in in your nose. You're right O-boy doesn't have to worry about the "fuck buddy" problem, he's got Tony Rezko, William Ayers, Rev. Wright to worry about.
and it isn't and wasn't worth wrangling about. What is so hard to see there? I do however hold him and her to his far more recent anarchist membership.
ReplyDeleteCare to comment about that? Or do you only argue when it's already won? I don't care if he had a DUI. I care that his membership belongs to a group that want's Alaska to break away from America. Far more disturbing than a first time proud to be an American Michell Obama. Hell he don't WANT to be an American. But you missed it again!
Focus man, focus.
WOW...does anybody need a Valium?
ReplyDeleteWe might have to turn the hose on those two... ha ha. C'mon guys, kiss and make up time... ;>
ReplyDeleteHe must have got the idea to break from the US when he sat in his church for 20 years listening to his pastor scream "Goddamn America":...oops, sorry! My mistake! That was Obama's pastor and mentor, Rev. Wright.
ReplyDeleteHuck,
ReplyDeleteLeave the naming calling to the kids on the playground. My knuckles do not drag on the ground and I am not the one who posted this thread degrading Governor Palin because of a minor mis-speak. Hale-Bopp did and you seem to agree with the sentiment.
I am looking forward to her speech tonight.
For the last time AA, that was NOT a misspeak. This was a WRITTEN response that she COULD have RESEARCHED her answer and decided against it and was posted by the CONSERVATIVE Eagle Forum.
ReplyDeleteAnd I voiced strong disagreement with her, but didn't call her any names that I can see.
HB, respectfully, even if it was written for her, (as all speeches are written for every politician), it is a minor gaff that has absolutely no bearing on the Governor's capabilities.
ReplyDelete
