They always say to open with a joke, so I present Toby Keith's "The War on Christmas" from Stephen Colbert's Christmas special.
I just have not noticed the same level of "War on Christmas" rhetoric this year as the last couple and was curious about that. I am sure the little skirmishes the O'Reilly and his fellow commentators like exploiting are still occurring, but they just aren't getting the same coverage this year.
There are a few possible explanations, but I honestly don't know which it is. I don't listen to or watch conservative talk shows, so maybe they are still railing as much as always but the MSM is not picking it up as much. Another possibility is that the economic mess and the incoming Obama administration has given them something else to complain about this year.
So what' the status? Am I just missing it or has the country moved on to different fights this year?

I still like to wish people a Merry Christmas. It is meant as a greeting of the season as I know it to be. I in no means intend to offend anyone with that greeting. If the recipient is a Jew, I wish the would respond with Happy Hanukkah. If they are an atheist, Happy Holidays.
But if someone gets bent out of shape and their undees all in a bundle just because some said to them Merry Christmas, they either are the perpetually offended, or have some real underlying problems.

The Racine Post has a story on the nativity scene on Monument Square this year. There's no competing pyramid, or anything else, from the atheists. That seems to support your observations, Hale.
The Post story says it cost $700 to insure the pyramid last year. Insure it? What about the Festivus pole? Would we have to insure that? Would we be insuring the pole from damage, or others from damage by the pole?
The biggest story so far was the atheist's sign that was allowed to be posted next to the nativity scene in the Washington State Capitol Rotunda.
If you want to promote Atheism and recognize the Winter Solstice, fine. The big problem with this sign is that it attacked religions. It read "there are no gods, no devils, no angels. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens the heart and enslaves minds".
If it would have read "Happy winter solstice from the Washington State Athiest Foundation", and placed somewhere other than right next to the nativity scene, I doubt there would be as much controversy.
The dopey Governor is paying a very large political price for allowing this to happen.
The latest is that there is a group demanding to put up a Festivus pole.

Yes, AA, I had heard about the Washington sign. In fact, the sign was stolen from the Capitol (makes me wonder about their security!)
Like I said, I know there are still some skirmishes going on, but from my observations (not exactly a systematic survey I know!)they seem to be either fewer in number, getting less coverage, or people just aren't getting as worked up. Whichever it is, I am happy for seeming de-escalation!
