Ok, I'm sure Caroline is a nice person and is from a political family, but should she be given a Senate seat based solely on her last name? Yes, it's up to the people of New York State, but, c'mon, is she qualified, really?

You know, that was my first reaction when I heard this too. Then again, what are the qualifications for a regular person without a well known name?
Great point, KK, lets go back and review all 100 of them. Bet we could get rid of most of them with even a low set of qualifications. lol
But then why was Hillary Clinton elected..they are both attornies...I really feel better about Caroline than I do about Hillary.

Hillary was elected solely because she was/is one of the Democrat royalty, much the same as Caroline.
Caroline is probably the only Kennedy in the limelight that has yet to have some kind of contact with the police.
AA, you are probably right...
She is an attorney and many of our Senators and Reps have law backgrounds. Looking up her bio on Wikipedia (I know, take with a grain of salt...I'll stick to the hard facts). She has worked raising private funds for NYC schools, is a director of the Commission on Presidential Debates and and NAACP commission. These positions definitely have elements of politics, but not legislation, but many have been elected to office without legislative experience. On paper, there are worse choices out there...and I am sure there are better ones as well. I have not followed her career closely (hey, she's in New York) so I can't really say I have much opinion about her.
Names do help in politics...from the Clintons, Udalls, Daley's (in Chicago at least!) and Bushes to name a few.
The one thing I am fairly certain about is that the Democratic Governor will appoint a Democrat to fill the seat.
What I know about Caroline goes back to the days when her father was president. Undoubtedly name recognition helps, like when sons and daughters follow their parent's footsteps into show biz. It opens some doors, but it doesn't guarantee success. What's Frank Sinatra Jr. done lately?
