Well, who would have known he would do the right thing! I am happy to hear this.

I'm stunned again. I didn't think this would happen. I thought for sure he would try to squeak a retirement package out of it.

This just saves the alderman from voting for or against removal. Good riddance Sick Bastard Becker. Make sure he dosent skip town.

Someone posted elsewhere that resigning doesn't remove his rights to a pension where as impeaching does... I don't know the rules; maybe we should not sigh any relief yet?

I'm hearing rumors that there may still be a meeting tonight and another one Thursday? Can anyone confirm?

I just read at racinenews that the meeting tonight is canceled. There is a new meeting scheduled for Thursday. Link

Cool thanks KK.

if he would possibly get a pension, they need to figure out how much actual work he did, if any, not counting his criminal time on the computer, then take his fines out of what miught be left, and he may get peanuts if anything, but I'm sure he'll find a way to still make out, PIG!!

There's still a regular Common Council meeting tonight at 7 pm, but, yeah, special meet Thursday to discuss the what to do next.

"The Council has three options involving the appointment of a temporary mayor:

-- Appoint someone to fill the remainder of Becker's term, which ends in 2011;
-- Appoint someone and schedule a special election to be held in two months;
-- Appoint someone and schedule an election in April 2010." http://news.racinepost.com/2009/01/breaking-news-mayor-becker-resigning.html

I'm not sure if I prefer the quick election or waiting till 2010. We gotta be careful this time. But if we wait till 2010, then what? He/she only serves for a year and then another election? I dunno...

Sorry, I've been ranting over in enemy territory when not tending to the main computer. Still more work to do on it. What a time to have one of my main arteries to the world severed. Instead of watching the inaugural, I was watching blue progress bars scroll across a screen.

Orbs,
Upgrade to Windows 7, it is supposedly much better than Vista.

I was suprised that the resignation letter was so short - I expected the usual "I cannot lead with this cloud around me..." Blah Blah Blah. It's about time he left.

Appoint someone and schedule a special election to be held in two months;...........ORBS can you be ready in 2 months?.......

Orbs, Dr. kk says... take a pill, rest and AVOID the enemy. You know how detrimental that can be to your (mental) health.

JAK, thanks for the advice. It was XP, but my fault, more or less. Coincidentally, though, I was planning on dong a fresh install of everything this winter, anyway. I already bought more memory (which isn't reporting correctly.) I also was going to add a new hard drive and update the graphics hardware considerably, until the truck's fuel pump went out.

I also downloaded the 7 beta last week to the spare machine, but haven't installed it. It's good to hear a recommendation for it. Once I get this machine straightened out, I'll try 7.

Sorry to hijack this blog with my technical difficulties.

Like kk, I expected the mayor to dig in. I'm grateful that he finally chose to do the right thing.

I don’t know if I’m up late or up early...gezzz, anyhow, I was reading the article posted on the Journal Times web site by Stephanie Brien, in her commentary she states Becker will lose his $7k plus retirement for the year.

I am still wondering if he is going to retire from the city. I guess I am assuming the $7k is for this year only and does not affect the past years.

In any event, I feel bad for his wife and daughters and hope they come out of the mess okay.
