Tax time is coming.

So with all of the options out there does anyone have any suggestions on a good one? I Have gone to H&R for the last 20 years. Their expensive. Has anyone ever tried Turbo-tax? How about the free Gov tax site? Anyone here know how to do taxes? Anyone ever get audited because of bad a tax prep? I don't think I'll do it alone this year because I'm a big chicken (scared I'll forget something) The last thing any of us needs now is unlce Sam coming after us for more money!

  1. I've done my own taxes for the last 10 years, using mainly H&R software. Honestly, it's pretty foolproof. It goes through step by step what you need, and how to put it in. I'm sure the others are the same. The nice thing about it is you don't have re-input your information next year, just load the previous year information (it will tell you how to do that) and you've saved 20 minutes. It's also nice because you can easily do your state on the same program.
Some of them also have a system where you can send your return to professionals who will look it over before it is sent to the IRS. Good luck!

  2. I always do my own taxes because all I have is income/outgo. I used Turbo tax (or one of those free tax things) and it was EXCELLENT. After doing Federal they said for $14 more I could do State. I put in the figures and they figure it out..and give you options. Last year I did my taxes on the 10th of Jan and a week later I got my Federal refund taxes already. By the end of Jan I received my State tax refund. Totally worth it!

  4. Aha...that's what I used. I know it was cheaper than buying it. Again..an excellent choice.

  6. Because of my vast portfolio, the mansion in Asheville, not to mention the vineyard in Italy, I've always had a guy named Madoff do my taxes, but I understand that I may need to find someone else now.
