Swine flu sounds so terrible. Maybe we should rename it Becker flu.

Here's an idea: instead of rewarding illegals for sneaking into our country, how about we just pay them to stay home and keep their diseases there, too?

Orbs: I was thinking about this last night and thought about all the produce and stuff we buy at the store that is handled by these people. SCARED the hell out of me. I think i'm going to dig my backyard up, and grow my own stuff, starting Monday.

"We are very, very concerned," said World Health Organization spokesman Thomas Abraham. "We have what appears to be a novel virus, and it has spread from human to human. . . . It's all hands on deck at the moment."

Mexico city appears to be ground zero for an entirely new strain of flu. Why hasn't the whole damn city been quarantined? Our southern border should be SEALED for health reasons. We know it's happening, it's happening right now, why the hell isn't the government doing anything about it? I suppose after a few thousand US citizens croak, we'll start to "react."

You know Toad, I never thought of that. Now that I am on my way to the grocery store I will have to re-think what to buy. With us being closer to the border I wonder how much food we get from Mexico. Thank goodness we have spinach and lettuce in the garden. Tasty too.
Orbs, you are correct with closing the border. There are cases in California and Texas and I'm sure Arizona will pop up next.
It's a scary situation. Kind of like years ago when I worked at the Health Dept. and we gave out swine flu shots.

We need hale to come blog and calm us down.... New strain viruses are a big deal. With international travel and commerce as it is, there is no way to prevent this.

We need to invest in research for new antibiotics that are strong, we need to be more careful with the overuse of antibiotics that we have, we need to follow directions exactly when prescribed antibiotics (take the whole prescription even if we feel better, take evenly spaced out) and be vigilant with washing our hands and following hygiene practices that we know to be effective.

You'd be surprised if just once you counted everything you touched for a trip somewhere(store, etc) starting with your doorknob going out and stopping with the outside doorknob coming back. I did that once leaving work and counted 12 'knobs' just coming home from work. Made me wash my hands more often.
