Rock and Roll Revival

Hello again, folks! Last week, I did a blog on lyrics. This week, I'm going to flip flop it and talk about the music within. As some of you may be aware of, I'm a guitar nut. The guitar usually the first thing I listen for in a song. I love listening to the chords, the riffs, and especially the solos. Other instruments like the keyboards, the bass, the drums, and whatever that is out there grab my attention as well. Sometimes the lyric are an afterthought, but not always:) The music is the heart of the song, while the lyrics speak the mind.

I often get down to instrumental albums like Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow and Mahavishnu Orchestra's Birds of Fire. Instrumental jams turn me on. Here's a video of one my favorite instrumental songs, La Villa Strangiato by Rush. So my friends and fellow readers, what instrumental tune do you get into? Hey, it could be TV opening theme or soundtrack score if you want.

BTW-for the French readers, what does La Villa Strangiato mean? I honestly don't know.

Drew, I am not really sure you can call this an instrumental but I have also like the song Amazing Grace done with bagpipes accompanied with drums.

It always reminds me of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country to keep us free and all the police and firefighter who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

This is not French, but Spanish. Means the city/village Strangiato.

SER-Yes, Amazing Grace is a great reminder for those who have fallen in the line of duty. I have a friend who loves this song so much that it sends shivers.

kk-Thanks for clarifying that for me:) Rush is from Canada. Knowing that there is a huge population of French speaking Canadians, I assumed it was French. My bad...

Hey Drew....very interesting that you said the music speaks to your heart and the lyrics to your mind, for me its the opposite...but both together speak to my soul :)

I have to think about an instrumental....I'll get back to you on that one.

Have any of you ever heard of The Beta Band? I just picked up a 2 disk cd from the library. I'm not so sure, the jury is still out... Crazy and different but kind of compelling at the same time.

kk-that's the first time I've heard of them! I checked out their website and they sound interesting. I'll be sure to check them out!

DA-They ALL rock! I saw SRV open up for Robert Plant in 1988 and Eric Johnson open up for Steve Miller Band in 1996.
