SNOHOMISH, Wash. – The Snohomish City Council may decide Tuesday night to trim the budget by laying off a member of the police force — Dixie the drug-sniffing dog. Dixie finds drugs and money for the reward of playing with a chew toy, but the 7-year-old shepherd-collie mix costs about $16,000 a year in vet care, food, grooming, kennel and training costs.
The Everett Herald reported Snohomish plans to keep its other police dog, Kizar. The German shepherd is needed to track criminals and is a younger dog.

I suppose after a couple hundred try's I will figure out how to do this correctly? Anyhow I can't believe a dog could cost $16,000.00 a year? I WANT a tax deduction for mine.
Mine cost me $6,000 last year for surgery...food about $180...grooming $320 (oh-oh...silly me!). Incidentials (treats) $100 for the year. Miscellaneous vet bills $400, plus his rx's @ $400...where am I here...about $7,500 or so??? But remember, that the majority of this was for surgeries! My guess would be on average, I would spend $2,000/yr for the dog with no problems. For crying out loud, I forgot the teeth cleaning bill of $300!
Okay, my dog is spoiled....I admit it...but no where near $16,000 for its care!
Kibble ain't cheap, Toad! Nice to see you posting...
Check out a photo of the dog: http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn6/orbscorbs/dixiedog.jpg.
Yeah, Toad, good to see the post. I LOVE the little edit pencil at the bottom of my posts. I go back and fine tune them over and over. Just what an obsessive-compulsive person needs.
$16K sounds like a lot for a dog, but this is a working police dog, not your family pooch. I bet the training is costly. And kennel costs.

Thank's for letting me know about the edit pencil. I looked all over the place but, couldn't find a way to edit all of the garbage out.
I took the liberty to clean it up a little bit for you, really hope you didn't mind. I should have mentioned the pencil. Orbs is not the only obsessive-compulsive one here....
KK:
Thank's, YOUR a trooper.
