Rock and Roll Revival

Welcome back, everybody! This week, I want to take the time to reflect the music I've listened to over the years. As many of you know, I love classic rock. The funny thing is, I never grew up with it. (My folks listened to country) I learned it all though my friends. Each tune I heard and liked expanded my horizons... I'm always searching for music.

I look back at some of the music that I loved and listened to over the years. Some of it is older than me! By gosh, I was four years old when the Beatles broke up! And I think they are awesome! I've learned that great music is timeless... Now, I get misty eyed when I see my twelve year old son wear his Aerosmith T-shirt with pride. I grin ear to ear when I watch my son jam away to Paint It Black on the guitar. Yep, he knows that stuff. You are never too young or too old to appreciate music.

So, I got an oldie, but a goodie for ya! It's no other, but the King himself! Put yours hand together for Burning Love!

Any reflections?

  1. You can't go wrong with Elvis. I was watching "Rattle and Hum" tonight and one of my favorite moments is when the talk to Larry about Elvis and he gets quite emotional sharing about his visit to Graceland.

Anyhow...back to your topic. Its different for me. I grew up with a dad who loved music and heard all genres around the house (except country! opposite of your parents).

I was four years old when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan and watched it with my dad. Music from the 60's - early 80's is still my favorite but there are so many great new bands out there too.

BDS comes to mind as one...BUT where did they get their influence? Yep, back to the original greats....Clapton, Hendrix, etc.

    Great post, Drew :)

  2. My dad listened to opera music. I had to sneak my rock 'n roll 45s onto the record player during the day when he was at work.

I was a kid when Elvis hit the big time and old enough to appreciate the Beatles when they appeared on the scene. I love how music has been the soundtrack to my generation's life but hate how ad agenices have exploited that. (Note to Dennis Hopper: please off yourself before you sell out to another investment firm and try to convince us that is why we started a "revolution.")

I occasionally find myself humming a tune from the 50's, usually one that I did not own on record but probably heard a lot on the radio, like Gene Chandler-Duke Of Earl.

  3. Btw, instead of "Duke of Earl," a buddy and I always sing "puke of squirrel."

  4. Orbs, Duke of Earl was the very first record I bought myself...my brother had purchased records for me..Venus, The Chipmunk Song (Alvin & the Chipmunks)....etc. He bought my first record player. Wonder if he remembers that????

Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl...oh I loved that song.

  5. Barbara-I remember watching that Ed Sullivan show (some years ago). I saw the impact that it made on people. Very chilling..yet impressive.

Orbs and Beejay-now you got me thinking of that tune from Gene Chandler. It rocks!
