Click on the link to listen to the Racine police scanner on your Windows Media Player.
If you have a problem with the link, you can listen to a web player, or select feeds for other players (Real Player, iTunes, Winamp), here:

I have a crush on the voice of one of the dispatchers. She can handcuff me anytime. Rawr!
We've recevied a tip of the hat for the scanner idea from The Chief, a blog in Oshkosh: http://foxtrot-echo.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-toys.html
Oh I thought u took the idea from Racine News!
Actually, I first saw an online police scanner on the DailyKenoshan and wanted one. kk came up with a scanner in response to that but we had concerns about it eating up our bandwidth. So I listened to it on Racine News. Then this morning, someone on the Journal Times site asked about "the site with a police scanner." I believe she was referencing Racine News. For the hell of it, I Google searched for feeds. Lo and behold, I found the one that's now on our sidebar, requiring no special code or gadgets. I went back to the Journal Times blog, and someone else had already posted the feed site location.
So, yes, I "took" the idea from Racine News, after first taking it from the DailyKenoshan and being reminded of it by a comment on the Journal Times.
Yes anon, we have been working on this for a long time, many months..
Have you ever heard the saying that there are no new ideas left? That is probably true. I happen to notice that the Journal Times scans our blog frequently, maybe to get ideas and tips? That is probably the reason for their new open blog too. People tip them off to items of interest. It happens.
Were you joking? I hope so, if not... get over yourself. (Sorry, guess I'm having a crabby day)
It's the lack of sunshine.
Cool! Don't have to d/l a special app for it?
( I haven't checked it yet)
Oh, and Orbs... that first comment was good.. Think she reads this?
DogAddicts, you shouldn't have to download an application as long as you have Windows Media Player installed on your computer. I've tried it in both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and it worked fine. But it wouldn't open in Internet Explorer on my secondary computer. I assume that's a problem with that machine. In any case, I've added a link in the sidebar to the site that's supplying the feed, so if anyone has problems, they can simply listen to it from there.
I doubt the police dispatchers read the JTI. And every time I've seen a disc jockey after hearing his/her voice first, I've been disappointed.
I use the default female voice message on my phone answering machine and a number of people have commented on how "nice" or "attractive" the voice sounds. I have a buddy who wants to meet her.
Cool.. listening now, but I'd rather listen to music!
OH NO! someone parked in someone else's boat slip!
Actually the buzzing makes my head hurt.
Yeah, it's raw. The volume varies widely, the chirps are loud, lots of buzz and fuzz. I can only listen for so long, too. It's educational, though, to hear what the men and women in blue do at various times of day and night.
I usually don't listen to anything when I'm online - I don't know why. I like music. I believe kk also listens to tunes when she's online.
Have to have music on!
My parents used to have a scanner on all the time... got to be annoying. Especially when they caught me! LOL..
Disclaimer.. I was not stealing or arrested or doing anything illegal .
Hey, maybe that's the cause of my crabby problem. I was listening to the scanner instead of the tunes all morning! Amazing what trash goes on in the bowels of this city! Eeeeee....
I think that's great guys! I am happy to see somebody else has decided to provide some scanner feeds. Due to bandwidth constraints I can only provide 24 users at a time with a feed. Since I host a physical scanner and the server that streams it, bandwidth became an issue right from the start. I used to re stream the feeds from
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?stid=55 but it lacked the RPD car to car and tactical channels. Now people have another place to listen when my server is full, you guys rock!

I could care less who thought of it first, I took the idea from a site I saw and thought it was a neat thing to offer my readers.

I have it on my tool bar at the bottom of my screen so I can turn it on in a second. I do that when I see a cop car drive pass my house. Just nosy I guess. There is one dispatcher Char who really knows what she is doing. I hate when they send out emergency vehicles. That is sooo loud.
People who listen to scanners have to much free time.
