"Sex Offenders Welcome"
"PAHOKEE, Fla. — No sign marks Miracle Park, a cluster of one-story yellow buildings surrounding a small church that caters to one of society's most despised demographics: sex offenders.
"Since the development opened eight months ago, the minister who runs it has recruited former inmates by distributing brochures in Florida prisons and plugging it in sermons at the lockups. Some 35 sex offenders now live in the complex about three miles from Pahokee, a poor farming community of 6,000 wedged into sugar cane fields of the Everglades."

Ahem, I couldn't help but notice that this is in Florida . . .
We have A HUGE facility here in Mauston. (It's called a treatment center) even though the inmates CANNOT be cured. It now holds 600 inmates. I wish they would all move to Florida.
ReplyDeleteIt's a problem. Nobody wants to live near one. Is it better to have them grouped in larger populations rather than spread out? I don't know. There was one living in my last apt building that I didn't know about until he was arrested again for sex with a minor.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, when they built the "Treatment Center" LOL they said they wouldn't be released, because they were untreatable. I don't keep track, but they have released LOTS of them.
ReplyDeleteAnother WONDERFUL benefit is the traffic the HUNDREDS of out of town workers create coming to and leaving work. MOST (contrary to the SALES job) live outside the city and county.
I am not certain WHAT the benefits of this center were, but If you look at our city NOW and compare it to when it opened, It's STILL a Tear it down and leave an empty space city.
This is like putting all criminals in Austrailia and all leporsies on devils island. Didn't we once consider putting all criminals in Mississippi and give them their own state? I think all alcoholics have been transfered to Wisconswin and given witness protection and Mayorial jobs. WOW is Wisconsin on the map or what? Last year I was in Mexico and told another guest I was from Racine WI and they said Oh that's the city with the mayor.
