There most be a sort of sociopath in me. I see this stuff and all I can think is anarchy. I'd be the expelled one for getting ALL the students to stand up and say meep at a set time. Forget suspension.
It doesn't stop here though. I get this same anger when someone attempts to impose any judgments on other's rights. This is a case foe the ACLU. Once the Right has it's way and the ACLU is no more, even silly things like vilification for uttering Meep will raise no outcry.
Coming from someone who works with teenagers, this is just good, clean fun to them. They don't see the harm. The problem is not the word. The problem is that it is causing disruption to classes and the orderly flow of the school society.
My first comment, "teachers, leave those kids alone" was a joke. You can't let behavior go over the top. The environment could then become unsafe.
The school is not thinking by banning this word. They are proverbially chasing their tail. The kids will simply choose another, alternate word or gesture to tick off the staff.
Instead, they should say that calling out anything that becomes disruptive will be dealt with, following the code of conduct and rules for misbehavior that all schools have in place. Period. Blah, blah.
Meep in itself, is not dangerous. The practice of using it inappropriately or banning it with a heavy hand is inappropriate.
Hope your day is filled with meep, everyone! (and I mean that in a good way) Interesting story, hale!
