A Night @Kitt Peak

I just got back from out Project Astro workshop night at Kitt Peak. Spend most of the evening showing teachers objects through the Galileoscope including Jupiter, Mizar, M4, M7, M8, M13 and M31. Not a bad collection for a little scope.

I did manage a couple of night shots. Couldn't resist getting the Milky Way over one of the domes on Kitt Peak.IMG_1686

I also took a shot toward Tucson of the lights. Remember Tucson has good lighting ordinances so note the lack of upward directed lighting, You still get some light...hey, there are a lot of people down there!

Good night...another day of the workshop tomorrow!

World's Smallest Political Quiz

You'll be asked just 10 questions, and then it instantly tells you where you stand politically. It shows your position as a red dot on a "political map" so you'll see exactly where you score.

The most interesting thing about the Quiz is that it goes beyond the Democrat, Republican, and Independent.

The Quiz has gotten a lot of praise. The Washington Post said it has "gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings." The Fraser Institute said it's "a fast, fun, and accurate assessment of a person's overall political views." Suite University said it is the "most concise and accurate political quiz out there."

"State still paying troubled day care provider"

Her license was revoked. She owes $103,000. But money is still coming.

"State regulators pumped $25,132 more in taxpayer money this week into the pockets of Latasha Jackson, the day care provider who bought a Jaguar convertible and built a million-dollar mansion in Menomonee Falls - all while officials ignored red flags that she was conning the system for more than a decade.

"The payment was made Tuesday despite the fact that regulators already are scrambling to recoup more than $103,000 they admittedly overpaid her during a recent four-month period."

Sturtevant Porchlight Project

Sturtevant Porchlight Project

According to the US Justice Department, one of the easiest ways to help reduce the chance that your house is burglarized is to have a lit porchlight, Criminals don’t like to be seen committing their crime and will move on if your porches are lit, and those of your neighbors.

In order to assist residents in “lighting up” their neighborhoods, the Sturtevant Porchlight Project and the Sturtevant Police Department have partnered with We Energies. They generously donated 1200 compact florescent light bulbs to the Sturtevant Porchlight Project. The light bulbs will be available to village residents at the Village Rummage Sale on September 19, 2009 at North Park. Each household that signs a pledge to use the bulbs for their porch lights can receive two bulbs.

In addition, the Sturtevant Police Department will have an officer present to answer any questions residents may have about Neighborhood Watch.
