I understand Conan had a pointed joke that said, "Hosting 'The Tonight Show' has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to me. And I want to say to the kids out there watching, you can do anything you want in life unless Jay Leno wants to do it, too."
I hope they both leave NBC. NBC was just being greedy. Personally, I thought Conan was 100 times better when he had the later time slot and the edge of New York city behind him.
I don't know for sure but from what I've read, Jay Leno had nothing to do with this. The idiots at NBC pretty much told him when he would be giving up the Tonight Show. Which was nuts as he was always ahead of Letterman. Now after a few months and bad ratings for both shows, they decide to put Jay in the 10:30 slot in order to get their audience back. The whole thing is such a mess that I think the only way out is for Jay Leno to tell them to take a hike. I prefer Jay Leno to Conan, like KK I think Conan fit the later time slot much better than this one.
I don't watch either of them. Years back, I watched Letterman. Like Mary, I didn't understand what they were doing when they moved Leno. He dominated that time slot.
NBC lost Letterman when they promoted Leno over him. Now they may lose more.
I've never been a fan of Leno. I quit watching The Tonight Show when I had to choose between Leno and Letterman.
Conan has just been ripping NBC. His ratings have actually gone up since this announcement. He said on his show tonight that he was just offered a role in a porno movie... but he found out when it came to the "critical moment" in the movie, he was to be replaced by Leno. LOL
I never liked Leno, always was Conan or Letterman. Dennis Miller, I loved his show! Craig Ferguson is pretty darn funny too! Many options out there if you are into that type of show. Do people tune in for the host, or the guests?
I'd have to agree with you D/A. Right now, Craig Ferguson might be the best. You can't help but chuckle or smile at his antics and he is very unassuming.
