Intersection Hwy 11 & Hwy 32 Finally Reopens

They have been working on this intersection and its railroad overpass since the Mesozoic era. I drove through today and it was open for all traffic. Hooray! Now, if they will just finish work on the State Street Bridge, another kink will be taken out of my routine.

It amazes me how quickly the interstate highway system was built in the '50s but how long it takes to rebuild just a small section of it.

When I moved to Tucson, they were about to start widening I10 through downtown (about four miles I think) and said it would take them three years. They came in a few months ahead of schedule but the entrance and exit ramps were closed on that stretch the entire time. That stretch of roads included the closest ramps to where I work so I noticed it!

This has been closed a long time. For the most part, you could get through on Hwy 32, but no access to Durand (Hwy 11). The alternate route, Memorial Drive, is in terrible shape north of Durand.

I don't know how many times I've forgotten this intersection was STILL under construction. Glad that it's finished.

That was my major route downtown. I'm very happy to hear it is back. It was a real inconvenience. I'm so used to going around, (how long has it been?) I might not have known, so thanks for posting!
