So this Air Force Chief goes on an adultery and sexual harassment binge, and at his court marshal he claims that he was "Caught up in a cycle of sin." It's like the Race Card Christians use as a get out of jail card. I've been asked more than once the question of "If you don't believe in a god, what keeps you in check?" Well, the golden rule. I treat everybody or try to as I want to get treated myself. Anyway, an old comedy skit hit me from years gone by. I bring you Flip Wilson at the Ed Sullivan Show doing his skit, "The devil made me do it."
I have always wondered where the incentive is to be good if you can sin all you want and then ask God to forgive you.
ReplyDeleteI always loved that guy..expecially when he did Geraldine. Good clean humor!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Hale. I find many church goers who sin terribly and often, and find solace in confession. The act of confession was always lost on me. I don't believe you can be absolved. If you commit the crime, it can not be erased.
ReplyDeleteIf indeed there is some type of judgment day (I don't believe there is).... I, alone will stand accountable for my sins. I hope the positive things I do in my life make up for my misdoings.
Join the Catholics. You can lie, cheat, steal, rape, murder, perv up your entire life, then have the Last Rites performed on your deathbed and go straight to heaven. Or you can just buy a plenary indulgence from the pope.
ReplyDeleteI don't know I still like the golden rule: do unto other then cut out...
ReplyDeleteI'm with you guys, just ask the preacher for absolution and you're good to go for another week or until you show back up in church...what a bunch of bullshit.
Btw, I loved Flip Wilson, too.
ReplyDeleteGee, and I had a second of hesitation about posting that comment thinking I might start a flame war...well, you showed me!
