Tell the truth, would you pick up the bottle? I would, automatically. Part of that is my groundskeeping background. I was always policing the grounds. I still pick up trash around my apartment building. I have to fight to stop myself from pulling weeds from other people's flower beds. You know when you see a garbage can blowing around the street on a windy day? I'm one of the guys who pulls over and puts it on the sidewalk.
Many factors involved here, so I can do analysis paralysis. First, I don't go to the mall, so I would not pick up the bottle, if I never saw it at the mall. If I saw trash anywhere else, I would pick it up because I am just like Felix Unger. A place for everything, everything in its place, I hate messes. Doesn't that woman deserve some sort of prize?
I'm sitting here at work looking at a dirty diaper that someone left in the parking lot. Someone who just had their nails done. What do you think the chances are that I'm picking that up? I love those flashmobs.
Ooo, Mary, I know what you mean. I have seen some of the most disgusting, vile things discarded on the street/sidewalk, or in parking lots, or even the various apartment buildings I've lived in. There's a limit to what I'll pick up.
When I was a groundskeeper for a nursing home, the most bothersome thing was cigarette butts, especially near the entrances. I smoked for decades, though, and threw many a butt on the ground or out the car window, so I figured it was karma that I had to pick them up. Same thing when I get ripped off on auto repairs - it's payback for my misdeeds in Chicago. Lord, will my dues ever be paid?
I probably wouldn't pick up trash in the mall. I do it in the school all the time.
