I was wondering if you all could help me out.. I've been looking around for some fun things to do in the Racine, Milwaukee and Chicago areas that I could bring my girls to (ages 2 and 4).. It will be luxurious for us because we might be able to do something with that the dollar is so weak and our Swedish money will stretch a little farther than it does here.. So if you can give me some idea of things to look into I would like to do some more fun stuff while there.. I appreciate any help or tips.
Shedd Aquarium is pretty cool in Chicago, haven't been there in a long time but it was really nice.
Is it, or has it been a full moon lately? maybe somethings in the water or the air, but things feel a bit off, like I'm out of orbit just enough to not be right...
I know it isn't very exciting, but I love Wustum Museum, and the price is right. I'm not sure if the little ones would get as much out of it.
I've been to the Shed recently. It is very expensive... and unfortunately, not kept as clean as it could be. The smell in there the last time, drove me out.
The Milwaukee Zoo or the Racine Zoo is a very nice option, especially with small children.
Don't forget the city passes. They let you into several museums at a discount. If you are in the country for a while, all the Chicago museums (Adler, Shedd, Field Museum, Art Institute, Science and Industry) have free days once a month or so, usually in the middle of the week. Check the schedules for them.
Unfortunately, museum admission has gone up a lot and many of them are in the $15-$20 range (or up) per person.
oohh good suggestions everyone thanks.. I will definitely have to look at the city pass thing.. I will be available in the middle of the week.. I think anyways.. Would like to get a little part time job for something to do... love the ideas..
KK Wustum it's been years, they have little classes I should look.. I remember my mom and I taking a paper making class there.. I plan on hitting up the Racine zoo a few times and have looked into the Milwaukee zoo as well.. also kinda expensive
Tender heart thank you for reminding me about the dinosaur museum in Kenosha.. I remember seeing that last time I was there.. they have that civil war museum and natural history as well down on the lake front..
how sweet you all are.. Thanks for the suggestions.. My husband is really excited about the Jelly Belly tour.. I would really like to do the Botanical Gardens.. is it difficult to drive to? I'm not super used to driving around in Chicago or can we take train and bus (as this is how we are used to getting around here)
Take them to where mommy went to school. I would think the schools especially the grade school would have no problem letting you In.
I think S.C. Johnson has movies at the Golden Rondelle? Someone that still lives there would have to answer that one. ALWAYS free.
Maybe a trip to a Real American Fire Station would be fun? The older stations like the one on Washington and Lathrop are neat. Also a nice one on Romayne Ave.
Would a McDonald's like the one on Douglas let little Swedish girls visiting our country see how hamburgers are made?
Do they have "Chucky Cheese" in Sweden? Kids LOVE that. Fun and Pizza.
They also have that real nice playground for the girls down by the beach. Spend a day there and have a picnic with them. In the summer they have some bands playing in the evening.
Thanks Toad and Tender heart, McDonalds is very much a plague here in Sweden as well, so not much new there, but that was a good idea if you could get in somehow.. you never know could always play dumb tourist.. chuck e cheese is a good idea, used to go there as a kid.. not the one in Racine (didn't exist then, but the one in Milwaukee) Completely forgot about the Golden Rondell.. although my mom will never let me go there.. They took me there as a child.. I had some sort of stomach bug and threw up ALL over the place and they had to shut down the movie.. Will definitely be hitting up the beach.. did that last time we were there.. love it down there.
I have been to Jelly Belly in Kenosha a couple time but never took the tour.
You can gain 5 pounds just walking in the door! They have some great candy there and all extremely fresh! Not just Jelly Bellys but lots of other stuff also.
Chicago Botanic Garden is actually north of Chicago, in Glencoe, IL, just of off Highway 41 (four lanes, but not an interstate). Here's directions on getting there by car, train, bus, trolley, etc.: http://www.chicagobotanic.org/visit/directions
kk, note that the Metra station is about a mile east of the Garden. So that's a walk, or you can call a cab. The entire Garden is one huge hike. There are two trolley/ trains that loop the place, on and inner and outer track, but be prepared to walk if you want to see it all.

There is also the Dinosaur Museums in Kenosha that is free. We have looked that up online because we are thinking of going there one weekend.

Jelly Belly has a free tour in Kenosha. I've never done it... Does anyone else know if that would be something appropriate for kids that age?
As for the picture on the blog.... YAHTZEE! I got all rocks. Drat!
Nevermind... I answered my own question! It is official, Google does know everything. Very nice link here:

I've recently mentioned Chicago Botanic Garden. There's a fee to park, but you can bring your own food.
The Domes in Milwaukee. http://county.milwaukee.gov/MitchellParkConserva10116.htm
I haven't been to Milwaukee museums lately. I like the Dinosaur Museum in Kenosha. Kenosha has a nice lakefront, too.

Orbs, wanna go? I'd love to take the train and do the hike! Let's let it warm up and allow a few things bloom, first! :D
I don't know if I can do it anymore. I'm waaay out of shape.
You have two months to train... get walking! :D
