This is similar to my rant about the Journal Times below. What Colbert does with it is funny as hell. But it's really not funny that liars run our nation and our lives. We keep laughing and/or crying, but nothing is done about it.
Love Stewart and Colbert..
Orbs is right.. we do keep laughing and crying at what is happening.. wonder what it will actually take to be able to DO something about it..
I sometimes wonder about a generation growing up laughing at Stewart and Colbert. Will they just assume that government is a farce, a lie, and not give a damn? Or will they be sharper and quicker to catch the lies?
Modern technology plays a large part in this, too. Colbert and Stewart make heavy use of video clips. "Seeing is believing," so the politicians or whoever have a harder time squeezing out of their lies or gaffes.
Btw, "Not Intended to be a factual statement" may become the new tagline for all of my posts and comments.
Sometimes when I watch the montages they put together on the Daily Show, I seriously wonder if the politicians and pundits featured realize that recording technology has been invented.
I don't know, but I think bringing light to politics (even if it is joking about it) is at least making people aware of what is going on. Seems like before (maybe 10 years ago) people just went along doing their thing, not really paying attention to what was going on in politics. I personally have become more political since moving here to Sweden and seeing something different. Looking at my home from the outside.. But many people do not get that opportunity and I think it's great that they are making politics more main stream media, at least someone is paying attention.. Now if that translates to someone actually becoming active in politics and trying to make a real difference is hard to say. I would hope so, I would love to be a positive influence somehow in Racine, but really don't have a clue of how to do it..
I was almost crying watching that show this evening. He is hilarious. I was even going to post something myself about it. Again, the power of words.... It is great to have someone call these idiots out on their nonsense. I simply can't stand politics and the lies, deceit and power grabbing.
Be sure to call it both ways. After yesterday you can add "I will not raise taxes on the middle class" to the #Not Intended to be a factual statement
The BS happening in Washington is starting to get to me. IMHO Washington DC is all dog and pony. The only real connection the average joe has is on the local level. I have always felt that the most important elections are the local ones, because you can affect (or effect) your city council member or school board, or village trustee or sewer commission etc... more then anyone in DC. DC is the circus, the States are the sideshow, and the locals are the guys that pick up the crap afterwards.
End rant.
I don't think anyone is picking up any crap, at this time. The stink is piling up and is going to hit the fan and splatter over ALL of us. Just my opinion...
