Fond du Lac Man Eats 25,000th Big Mac

Here's a local story on it: http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/121989104.html

I don't know what to say. Saving the cartons and receipts? Yes, he is, as he admits, obsessive-compulsive. But I can't think of anything I would want to eat twice a day, almost every day (9 missed), for 39 years. I go on food jags - still on the Cracker Jacks - but nothing like that. Congratulations, I guess.

I make my own caramel corn Orbs. it's simple, easy, and fun.

1 big bowl. (I bought a SS baking bowl at Sam's.)

6 qts popped corn
2 sticks butter
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup Karo light corn syrup.
I ts vanilla
1 ts baking soda.

Turn oven on to 225*
lightly spread oil or spay Pam on the bowl.

On top of stove in a 2 qt pan melt the butter with the brown sugar and Karo corn syrup.

As soon as the mixture starts bubbling, stop stirring. Turn heat down until just hot enough to keep bubbling. Too high a heat can scorch the caramel.

Let bubble for five minutes.

Turn off heat

stir in vanilla

Stir in baking soda

Mixture will foam up. This is why you use a 2 qt pan as a smaller pan will foam over the top.

Stir caramel into the popcorn. Use strokes that scoop the popcorn up from the bottom.

Place into your preheated oven and stir one every 15 minutes. Bake for 45 minutes total. (In your first stir when adding caramel to the corn, the corn will not all be coated. As you stir a few more times during the low heat baking, the coating does spread out well)

let cool and bag immediately to keep fresh and crisp.

I add 2 cups of fancy mixed nuts to my caramel corn.

This stuff is dangerous in that it's cheap to make, very very tasty, and will make you fat overnight.

I saw the guy on the news. He said that the days he wasn't so thrilled to eat them, he would turn them upside down... as they tasted a little different that way.

Huck, I have recipe that allows you do it in the microwave, using a brown paper bag. Zero mess, and it is delicious. I can post it later if you are interested.

I can't remember the last time I had a fast food meal, it has to be maybe ten years. So I guess this guy is picking up the slack for me.

I heard about this guy on the radio Yesterday. They said for the last year or so his taste buds are gone and he can't even taste the big mac's anymore. But he still eats them.

Huck, that sounds delicious, but too much work for me. By the time I got around to making that, I'd be a different food jag. I haven't had a potato chip or ice cream for months, though. That's unusual for me, but, as I've said, I'm making up for it with Cracker Jacks and Oreos.

I just realized the irony of me saying that anything you do is "too much work for me." Uh, yeah...

If that guy who ate all those Big Macs has burnt out taste buds, he should have just eaten cardboard instead - way cheaper. And speaking of that, I wonder what the total is that he spent over the years. How much for all those Big Macs vs. home cooked meals?
