My boyfriend and I went out for drive this weekend and I decided to take some pictures of North Beach. I just couldn't believe how crowded it was not only on shore but out on the water too. Also just trying to drive through there was unbelievable. They finally but the fence up on the left side so no one can park on the grass now.
This is a picture by the beach you can see a lot of people on the sand. There are some people out in the water also.
This picture is a couple of boats lined up by the shore. There was so many lined up there I couldn't get more than this. There was also a lot of sailboats out on the water.
This is a jet ski with someone on the inner-tube in back. I thought this was really neat and I wanted to get this picture.
I just thought I would share with you how it looked down by the beach this weekend. The traffic there was horrible and I am glad we didn't stay that day. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures.

I miss my lake. The lake looks so pretty and inviting but I know the water is freezing.
Thanks for posting these Tender Heart.
I never went in the Lake when I lived in Racine. Nice to run near it in the summer though, kept things a bit cooler.
Thanks for the pics, THB. I believe you about the traffic. I grew up a block from North Beach and mom still lived there until 5 or 6 years ago. Just navigating Michigan Boulevard in that area can be difficult when the crowds are present. I don't even drive down on Hoffert Dr. anymore. (Is it still called that since the re-routing a few years ago?)
"I miss my lake." I love that comment, Mary. I feel the same way. Wherever I've lived, I've always oriented myself by my relationship to the lake (east). It's a fantastic resource.
In the 50's, North Beach was jam-packed in the summer with families swimming and picnicking. With the alewives dying off in the 60's, "the beach" went downhill. I kind of liked the privacy of such a huge beach for only 6 or 7 people.
I'm happy that so many people have re-discovered North Beach, but I know that the people who live nearby do not like the crowds or the occasional problems at the Oasis. I think people were more peaceful and respectful of each other in the 50's, so it didn't matter as much back then.
I think they put the fence up for the 4th of July so one parks there. They also have almost all the parking area along the lake behind Gateway and Library blocked off....stupid down there. But that’s Racine.
Getting to the North Beach can be a pain in ass, after running into old friends and listening to some good live music, it can make your time worth awhile...
The color in the pictures is beautiful. Nice job posting them, THB... I know they can be a pain to publish, sometimes.
I love the lake, too. I know exactly what orbs is talking about: I can close my eyes and know my direction by where it is.
I used to swim in the lake every day in my college years. There used to be a dog that lived down there whose owner would let him go off swimming. I'd swim out and call to the dog, who would come "save" me. I feel like Mary, too, it is MY lake.
