I know the pictures on my first post of my trip to Germany were somewhat depressing. So I thought I would show you some others that show you how beautiful a country it is and will make you want to take the trip.
This is German beer (I should have taken the picture before I started drinking it)
This is one of the places you drink German beer.
These are Germans taking a breathalyzer after drinking lots of German beer. Not really. They are playing Alpine horns.
The Schloss Nueschwanstein ("schloss" means "castle" in German)
The is the famous castle that is on all the Lufthansa ad posters and the one Disney modeled their castle after. It is a "modern" castle since it was completed in the late 19th century. It even had indoor plumbing. Not good for Konig Ludwig since after he damn near broke the bank on building it, a court ruled him crazy. He was found floating in the lake behind the castle shortly after that. (did I mention that while he was floating he was also dead?)
German horses. Since the castle is a couple of kilometers up a steep winding road, you either have to walk, take a bus, or a horse drawn wagon to get there. These horses definitely didn't understand English....You say "Giddyup" to them and they just stand there looking at you stupid.
A mountain inside the Berchtesgaden. The Berchtesgaden is a very large national park in southern Germany. The Obersalsburg located in the Berchtesgaden is were you know who had his mountain retreat. The park is huge and very beautiful.

Beautiful pictures! As homer would say... mmmmm, beer!
Jam-man, did you make it to the Rhine or Mozel rivers and see all the grape vines?
I have some pictures of them, it is amazing how steep they are.
They have ropes on them so people don't fall down the hill and ropes so they can pull themselves up to pick the grapes.
Very nice pics.
That beer hall reminds me of the old Shakey's Pizza on Hwy 31 in Somers that was an 18-year-old beer bar back in the day.
Berchtesgaden is where my parents' DP camp was postwar. Beautiful views, but rather austere conditions, as I understand it.
Beautiful....I hope someday to get to Europe...I have a nephew who lives in London and I'm sure I could convince him to be my tour guide!
These pix just make me think I should do it sooner, rather than later.
Absolutely beautiful.. really is no reason for not getting there for me.. it's such an easy connection.. We meet lots of Germans in Sweden, they are interesting bunch.. Will have to plan a trip there soon.. thanks for the inspiration
Beejay we could always show you around Sweden..
I'm dying to go to Paris... maybe the gals need to get busy planning?
Worldwide JTI gatherings.
I know It's a lovely country. My brother and his wife are going In November or something, and my nephew and his wife are going In September. My nephew has been there before, but my brother has yet to leave the country. I think It would be funny If he was on the "No Fly" list.
SER, To hell with the "Grape Vines" the wines you named are the BEST especially the Mosel.
Orbs, Holy Mackerel. I haven't thought about Shakey's for ages. We used to go there on the way to the Brat Stop. They had "Special Export" we were always told It had more alcohol In It? My dad used to talk about DP's. As a kid I never knew what the hell he was talking about. Oh what a world.
I went many of those places, including Berchtesgarden. I went to Eagle's Nest while I was there. I ended up going down to Salzburg as well.
Bringing back memories.
Nice pics logjam! I wondered what happened to the country we invaded?
