Useless Information

Did you Know:

In the year 2004 it was estimated that 9 out of 10 computers that was connected to the internet became infected with some type of spyware?

My computer got infected once in my early days online. I had McAfee Antivirus then. It came with the computer. All of a sudden my computer was acting funny and McAfee couldn't figure out the problem.

A buddy told me to disable the McAfee and download a free trial of Norton Antivirus. I did and it detected the virus, but the only way to deal with the infected files was to delete them, and some were critical to the operating system. That's when I learned about reformatting, and reinstalling an operating system and applications. That seemed to happen quite a bit with Windows 98 and Millennium, virus or no virus.

Wasn't dial up great?

Don't you just love it when all those little icons show up on your screen screaming you have a virus?
You try to x out and nothing happens. Been there, done that. But the one thing I did learn was to unplug the computer. It's the only way I've found to stop the madness once it has started.

I kinda miss the noise of dial up.. hard to imagine going back to it though.. I go nuts when I'm back in the states at my parents house.. cannot stand how slow the internet is there..

We had a pretty nasty virus about a year ago.. had to reformat the hard drive.. luckily my husbands boss is great with computers and all too willing to help us out.. I'm a computer illiterate.. took me forever to figure out the basic stuff here on this site..

Why Not, I understand that Europe and Japan especially have faster internet than us. Perhaps my internet addiction will force me to move overseas.

We have basically the bottom of the barrel here which is 8mb/sec it's fast enough for our needs.. I have recently seen ads for speeds up to 200mb/sec I cannot fathom those speeds.. We do not have fiber optics in our apartments here, we would be able to get faster speeds but right now we go the ADSL route and 8mb/sec is about as fast as they can deliver to us.. Our landlords dont seem to have any plans on installing fiber optics throughout their buildings..
