Backyard Turkey

From TSE:

"Here is a turkey that was in the backyard in Mt. Pleasant the other day."

I like the one with the squirrel in the bird feeder. They were always doing that to mine. And they can chew through anything.

Gobble, gobble.

The Squirrels here are nuts! There has been as many as 13 at one time - of course, they are encouraged by feeding them. I've seen the Hawk come through the yard and try to capture them - but
I've never seen the Hawk be successful. We're down to 7 squirrels, but soon the babys will be out.

In the other part of the yard I have 2 squirrel feeders that I fill with Sunflower seeds - they have to lift the lid to get a seed. I stole the idea from here:

http://www.birdwatching-bliss.com/free-squirrel-feeder-plans.html

Two of the lift-a-lid variety, and 3 of the corn on a spike. We also have Coyotes, a Red Fox, and Deer.

The Turkey is feeding on what the squirrels waste on the ground - hopefully it's a she, and we get some babies.

In the Bird Feeders we get Grosbeaks, Finches, Catbirds, Blue-Jays, Cardinals and Chickadees.

They say Turkey's are dumb as a brick. I say WRONG. If they are so dumb, how come they are so hard for people to shoot? They are everywhere up here. When they feel like crossing the road, they do. They almost NEVER get hit.

As a matter of fact. The Turkey season just started.

One of my favorite road kills is "grilled" turkey, though it is a very expensive meal because of the damage they do to a vehicle.

I've seen turkey around here on the country roads especially on 4 Mile Rd. They are more numerous Up North.

About 15/20 years ago, I had a turkey on my apartment roof. That was when I lived on the corner of English and Erie.

I had a bird feeder at the old building. It had three tubes: two for regular birds and one for finches (thistle feeder). Very urban area and I never saw a finch so I made the third tube into a regular feeder.

I can't have a feeder here because the pest control company says they attract vermin. Funny thing is, we had the same pest control company at the old building and they never said a thing.
