Baja, Wisconsin formerly known as Racine.
As the deserts grow every year so are Baja’s beaches. They use to be a couple hundred yards deep from the lake, now there are areas which almost reach to Douglas Ave.
Looking at City Hall the sand is right up to the building.
I remember you could drive the streets and see beautiful green lawns; now they are brown and full of weeds.
I remember when you could sit on your front porch and not worry about the sand and dirt getting into your favorite beverage.

I remember 6th and 7th Streets meeting Grand and Washington Avenues.
A roundabout is completely out of character for the historic area. They are spending the money simply because it is there.
As a kid, I remember unlocked doors and screened first floor windows left open all night. I could hear the train from the west and the foghorn from the east. On some nights, I could hear the pounding of the hammer at Walker Forge, on the other side of town.
I remember when we would have a hard rain storm, we would play in the gutters as the water rushed by. No one was worried about “bugs” or diseases. \
I remember when Memorial Drive was called Forest Ave. Rainfair and Hartman Luggage was on Memorial Dr. now there is a prison there.
I remember hearing the noise from Jacobsens, Massey and I can't think of the other one.
We could sleep at night with the doors and windows open and not worry about a thing.
I can also remember when there was no Memorial Drive south.
God I'm old.
We're all getting old, and it is happening faster every day. I remember most of those things. I also remember when they proposed building the mall, I didn't think that corner had enough room to house a mall. Look at that area now! I remember thinking that driving 40 mpg in the city environs was way too fast.
I remember.. walking from State St down Hamilton to North Beach. Imagine.. 4 young girls walking all that way ALONE!

I haven't been to Racine in almost 2 years, I keep up by reading things here and other local sites. I guess I would be surprised by the changes.
just PLEASE!! don't let Jose's Blue Sombrero close before I get one more taste of their salsa!!
or someone freeze and overnight it to me!!
I remeber Park Pool! That was a great time; too bad Racine dosen't have a pool any more.
