I've written about this before, about a headshop on the corner of Main and Hamilton streets that was being forced to change the exterior colors of the store. See

Well, they finally did it. It took them over a year, but the building was painted last week.
The picture at top is the color scheme which offended city fathers. Below are two I took today. This time they painted the entire building:
I stopped in to ask about the paint job, but the clerk didn't have a lot of info. She did know that the original complaint came from a neighbor, and was followed by a complaint from the alderman, Jim Kaplan. (I remember when he complained about the teachers from Janes School parking their cars near his house, which is across the street from the school.)
Once again, the powers that be in Racine enforce conformity, in the name of "free enterprise."

Laugh'in...I was down there when they where painting it...
I disagree with the complaint, but I must say the building sure does look nice. Perhaps It will even increase business?
It still looks bold. I like the contrast of the blue hues. I hope the appropriate authorities approved it before the job was done. God bless the nanny state.
I like the way it looks. You go to any big city, they all have areas of "creative" styles.
I love the old colors. But it does look nice. I have to say I would think Racine has bigger worries than paint.
Oh Mary we do have bigger problems, they turning off street lights!!!!
Well that will deter crime won't it SER. Geez.

That's what I was thinking today. 20 years from now they'll be talking lovingly of the vintage look the area once had. Small minds govern Racine. Always have. We coulda landed Parkside, but Racine was too busy squabbling.
The crime of ripping down the Venetian Theater is a prime example of small minds at work in Racine. Today, that theater would be considered a rare jewel with historical landmark status. They tore it down and the entire block stood empty for decades. Once again, J-Wax leapt into the fray and saved us from ourselves.
Venetian and Rialto(?) Theater, I remember when the lines to get into the movies use to go down the street around the corner down to lake ave!
I use to go to them a couple times a month when i was a young.
