yikes, how many layers does it take to get moving when you get out of bed? so far, a scarf, 3 layers of socks, a blanket wrapped around me and a very heavy hoodie, with the hood pulled up of course! and that's just to get me from froze solid ice cube to slush...
One thing about the cold you can keep putting on layers and layers of clothing. When it toooo hot, you get down to your birthday suit, then is wooohooo!
Furnace died yesterday morning. Repairman came, said "it's done". So I ordered a new furnace. After he left I kept turning it on and off and poking around at it and got it going. Got the house up to 72 degrees by 10 last night. I turned the thermostat down to 66 degrees and heard the furnace try to start about 12:30, but wouldn't get going. Plugged in the space heater, it helped a little but not much. Woke up to 58 degrees at 6:30 this morning. The furnace people will be here any minute to install a new furnace today. Probably won't have heat until 2 this afternoon. And now I'm $2400 poorer. Ain't nobody got money for dat!
Good Morning everyone. Dodgeboy I feel for you. Why can't furnaces go out when it is in the 50's? We noticed our air conditioner making lots of noises before we turned it off so there is a chance that we will need a new ac/furnace come spring. Lucky for us, this cold snap is over starting tomorrow. Nothing like you guys have though. BRRRR.
Dodgeboy, do you have somewhere you can go until your place warms up? it's too cold to play tough guy. Legal - I can't stand coffee, tho a caramel steamer would work :) I should have made one but I wore so many darn layers to work that it took me forever to unbundle and by then I was really toasty
No shit with the furnace... I have 2 furnaces and both needed repair in the last 3 weeks. I am 700 poorer and don't got time or money for that either. They never blow when it's warmer. I'm blaming all the politicians for that. The president needs to fix this.
Whooo Hoooo !!! I have heat! It kinda smells a little. But warm stink is better that freezing cold.
I got a York because 75% of it is made and assembled in the good ol U.S.A.
It's nap time. I didn't sleep well last night. The buzzing from the space heater kept me awake.
Toad, my old furnace was a 20 year old Rheem drum style. It was "high tech" at the time but with in the first two years they recalled the burner twice and then replaced the whole furnace. (at their cost) Later on they had major issues with the heat exchangers cracking. They were surprised this one wasn't cracked.
Sorry you got hit for a new furnace DodgeBoy. My apartment building's boiler was replaced over the summer with a new, hi-tech one. It's twice as noisy as the old boiler and puts out only half the heat. A lot of people are turning on their ovens to warm their apartments.
I have a Lennox Pulse, that's about 25 years old. They replaced the heat exchanger In about "98" and It's been OK, but It has this crazy Flapper Valve that gets dirty, and won't flap, thus the furnace won't start. I messed with It for hours, until I figured It out. A real pain In the butt. When It's cold like this, It sure doesn't take long for the house to lose the heat. My house breathes better than I do. I glad your back In service.

Dodgeboy, Sounds like a Lennox Pulse? If It Is, they recalled them back some years because of the Heat Exchanger being bad.
Dodgeboy, you paraphrase Sweet Brown sooooooo well.
lm - how about some hot chocolate instead?
