The Truth!
Yes this is the sign in the window of Sentry Foods on Washington Ave in Racine Wi. It is a really sad time for all of the employee's right now.
What I want to let everyone know is the true reason why Sentry closed it's door. We had a store meeting back in November about the store closing and the owner was there letting us know what was happening. He is the one that told us the true reason of the store closing. That reason is the owner was losing five percent every year the store was open. This owner was in town for five years and every year he has lost money instead of making money. All the employee's had sixty days notice that the store was closing which I thought was really great. Some of the people had found new jobs before the store closed.
The reason why I am letting you know the truth is because I am so tired of hearing everyone blaming it on Wal-Mart moving across the street from there. That is not the reason because Wal-Mart has not even broke ground yet. That is all I heard for the last two months at work and I could not say the true reason to the customers they also kept saying that they would not shop at Wal-Mart anymore.
I worked until the last day on Friday and I can say that when I was saying good bye to everyone it was really sad. As I walked out the door to go and pick up Drew from work I started to cry because I am going to miss everyone I have gotten to know over the last year and a half.
I hope this helps everyone understand the true reason of the store closing. I was not allowed to say anything while the store was still open so I figured now it is closed and I will let you know.
Which one did you work at THB? I'm thinking the Douglas store?
ReplyDeleteThere is not a Sentry on Douglas the only one I ever knew of is the one on Washington and Green Bay Rd. Drew said the one on Douglas closed up years ago.
ReplyDeleteYou will be given a new direction
ReplyDeleteand some very good things may happen....not to sound like a fortune cookie, but I always found this to be true.
Oh, fortune cookie you say.
ReplyDeleteTHB, your fortune exists with your good health, good family, friends and soon to find new great job
Thanks THB. Now I am curious as to where they are going to build the Walmart.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, THB, in your quest for employment. It's a shame about Sentry.
ReplyDeleteLocation, location, location I say...
ReplyDeleteJewel Osco at one time occupied the same building that Sentry was housed. They went under as well...
THB, The reason the owner of the Sentry quit the business, probably WAS due to the Walmart being built. If he was already losing money without the Walmart, the future would only mean more losses, followed by larger losses. He pretty much did what would be called "Cut his losses"
ReplyDeleteI would not tell you the following, If I didn't care about you and Drew. I moved here with the company I was with for 23 years at the time. In 2007 on my 38th anniversary I was given a letter stating I was no longer needed by the company. I was devastated, and have been nearly homebound since, not wishing to leave the house. I cannot get the company out of my mind. It has pretty much destroyed my life. I have terrible Holidays, family get togethers are not the same. I'm telling you this, because you MUST get past the trauma of being out of work, and actively seek new employment. Your not 58 years old, like I was. You have, as I said before, good work ethic, and you are willing to work. You will miss your friends, and customers, but NOTHING Is stopping you from seeing these people somewhere else. Put Sentry In the past, as a good experience, and forge ahead. Take my word for It. You DON'T want to end up like me. Retired, and I don't want to leave the house. Your ONE of millions of people that this has happened to In the last 4 years. Be one of those, that JUMPS right back on their feet.
Good luck to you. I have been there several times. I'll be another chapter in your life. Tell EVERYONE that you are looking for work. That's how I go into the bakery. Love to you...and Drew!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your well wishes on finding a job. You don't know how much that means to me having such great friends like you and you are my second family.
ReplyDeleteToad- I do understand what you are saying to me. This is the second place I was there to help close. The first one was up in Shawano it was Wendy's and there I was the opening manager. I have been out there looking for another job since we found out about the store closing. I have a few phone calls to make tomorrow and I have filed for my unemployment. I am sorry to here that your job loss has made you homebound. The same thing happened to my dad when he retired. Reading what you wrote made me remember the day my dad went to his work place to get his things because he took my son with him. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a sad day but yet a happy day with him taking my son along with him. I do have a lot of the people from work on my facebook account to keep in touch with that will really help me out. Maybe one of these times we have a JTI get together you can come to so we can meet. I would really like to meet you. Thank you again for what you said to me because that really helps me a lot!
