Bump! Today SER gave me Smokie Links. Where did you find them?

Yesterday, I had a craving for Smokie Links. They're loaded with fat and cholesterol and salt and nitrates and nitrites and God knows what. I don't eat them often, but I usually prefer them over regular wieners.
So I went to Piggly Wiggly to get some Smokie Links. They didn't have any. Hmm. I went to Pick 'n Save. They didn't have them either.
As it turns out, Oscar Mayer stopped making Smokie Links in 2008, because of poor sales. That shows how often I eat them.
Unfortunately, there's nothing like them out there. A website said that Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage comes close, but not quite.
Farewell, Smokie Links. I wish I had known about your demise. I would have stocked up.
Orb's, I have known this for a few years now, but I found out the same way you did. What a bunch of shit. Don't they still make the Mini Smokies? They may be called Cocktail Weiners? I didn't eat them much either, but my wife loved them, which Is really odd, because she Is quite picky with food.
ReplyDeleteI thought about the mini Smokies, too. Maybe they're just available around the holidays?
ReplyDeleteSame thing with Ring Bologna down here. Finally found a place that sold it which was great.
ReplyDeleteWent back and they don't carry it anymore. I wonder if we were the only ones eating it.
Bologna, beans and fried potatoes. Yum.
I haven't had smoky links since I was a kid, forgot all about them, guess that's probably why they went away. Of course, I've never seen advertisements for them either, which would also be part of their demise, sorry Orbs :(
ReplyDeleteWhat do they do with the scraps now, make dog good?
ReplyDeleteI didn't know either that they discontinued them.
Mary, You will have to bring Ring Balogna home with you. We have all sorts of It up here.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Hot Dogs. I buy the "Bar S" brand. They are about .98 at Walmart, and If you fry the hell out of them, or better yet slightly slit them In several places, and deep fry them, they fit perfectly on a hamburger bun, and have a hole In the middle for stuff, like Ken did at Pete's Pixie, their great. Their made with chicken, and a bunch of other stuff, nobody wants to know about.
ReplyDeleteOh, poor Orbs.
ReplyDeleteI was at the Pig store today and looked for them, they still have the little Smokey links and Smokey links with cheese but no big ones….
ReplyDeleteAnd a zillion types of weiners.
I take Polish Kielbasa (packaged like ring bologna) cut it in half and slice it up into ¼ in pieces, then take a box of Long Grain and Wild Rice and when it’s half way done, put the slices in with it…..good stuff Maynard!
i just picked up 2 packs of oscar mayer smokies at walmart. you can check their website to see if your store carries them !
ReplyDeleteThey're back!!!
ReplyDeleteFound them at Woodmans in Oak Creek WI. The pack says New Smokies. Hope they are same recipe. Man.....been waiting! We'll see tonite.
Had them last night on dog buns though I usually have them with eggs for breakfast. Just as tasty as the old days! Hope they stay around. Saga ends.
ReplyDeleteWho in their right mind would look at or remember old blogs.......Oh, sometimes I forget we are irregulars.
ReplyDeleteSER found the packages while he was dumpster diving. laugh 'in
I'm not much for eating sausage, ring balogna or hot dogs; we had them too much as kids.
ReplyDeleteSER is a good guy... (despite what everyone says!) ;> Hope it hits the spot, orbs!
Found them at the Piggy Wiggy store on Washington Ave.
ReplyDeleteI like to take Polish kielbasa, cut it up in small slices and put it in Long Grain and Wild Rice when it's half done cooking.
Really exciting news. I will look next time I dare leave the house. I did meet a REALLY nice dog. (part Bull Dog, and Part Pit Bull) at Walgreens yesterday. Gave It a big hug, and really enjoyed him. The name was "Jeff" Made me laugh. Why Jeff?
ReplyDeleteI like "regular" names for pets. My Charlie was preceded by Gordy (in honor of a man who hated cats but probably saved my life more than once in AA).
ReplyDeleteAs SER would say..... SHOP THE PIG !
ReplyDeleteI had a Manx cat and his name was Archie.
ReplyDeleteYou can always get Johnsonville New Orleans Andouille style Smoked Links. They have beef & pork in them like the OM Smokies. They do have a slight spicy kick to them, but still good. Good luck in finding them. I saw them at one of my favorite stores week before last: 2-for-1 deal! Bought 4 of them!
ReplyDeleteI found Oscar Meyer mini smokies yesterday at HyVee. Nothing like the old little smokies at all. Actually, they were terrible. We had to give them to the dogs. I hope they bring the old recioe back.
