it's going to be a long week. My sister is getting married the end of the month. Thanks to needing to breathe and taking high dose steroids, I've had serious dental issues, that will all be getting fixed this week, pretty intensive stuff ahead, starting this afternoon and ending Friday. With any luck, I will look like a 'normal' person by the wedding day :) wish me luck...
WELL, my friends, I must share my sad news for this day. In little more than an hour, Mrs, Toad, and me will be taking my buddy "RET" (Black Lab age 15) to the Vet. to go to "The happy hunting grounds" Things changed dramatically over the weekend, and as my dear friend Mary once said to me "You will know when It's time", and of course It breaks my heart that, now Is the time. He had 15 great years, of doing pretty much whatever he felt like doing, and has been pampered pretty darn good the last couple of years. I will of course miss him, but we have two others that will help us to remember I think about this, and It makes me wonder why do we pet lovers grieve so much over an animal, that Is not of the human variety? I guess It's because they are ALWAY'S available. Just like my IRREGULAR friends, who are ALWAY'S just a click away. Just being able to connect with all of you people takes a huge load off of my mind. I already know each and every one of you share my sadness, and like my gift to DOGGY HEAVEN.
Oh Toad I am so sorry. But do remember this, Chelsea and Harley will be there to welcome him. I don't know why the bond is so strong; maybe because they aren't as needy as humans. All they want is food, water and hugs and kisses which they give in abundance. We are all giving you and the misses big hugs today.
I think we grieve so much because we are their caretakers. They rely upon us. They are our children, our friends, who are there to comfort us in our worst times, without judging. Toad, you are correct, we do share your immense sadness. Remember, you are giving RET the ultimate gift... helping him through the final phase without pain. We are here for you, Toad. Sending hugs and love.
Lizardmom, good luck this afternoon! When you are sitting there, mouth-agape, numb and drooling, just think how beautiful you'll be when it is done. I'm in the process of having a little work done myself. Not fun, but always good when it is done.
LM- Good Luck with the dental issues this week. If you need anything let us know we are here to help you.
Toad- We know what you are going through it is a great loss when you have to do something like this. The part that still hurts me the most is coming home and she is not hear to greet me. I know it just takes time to get over this. Like Mary said Harley and Chelsea are there to welcome RET in. We are always here for each other.
Toad, I'm so sorry. Despite my severe allergy to them, I am completely a dog person and dread the day when my buddy Lucy, my neighbors pitbull reaches that stage, I don't think I will be able to handle it. Know we're always here for you.
I am stocked up on pudding, jello and popcicles, I just have to survive the week, it's going to be intense. Only 2 people know, well, KNEW, before I told you guys. I let a manager friend know, as she works with me early and a close friend for support. It is to be a surprise for my sister and hubby :) nerves are kicking in but they were so nice last week, I am feeling pretty confident, just fearing the pain when my mouth wakes up while I'm sleeping... here goes nothing!
I love animals because they don't lie. I feel your pain, Toad. When I lost my last cat, I had to hide all of his toys so they wouldn't remind me of him. If I outlive Charlie, I don't know that I'll get another after him.
Lizardmom, just jeep screaming in the dentist's chair until they shoot you full of Novocaine and laughing gas.
Lizardmom, you should not have smoked all that crack when you were younger, crack really raises hell with your teeth…..Laugh’in.
A few years back I went to my high school reunion. One of the kids I hung around with called me and asked if he comes down (he lives way up north) if he could stay at my house for the night verses a hotel and we could catch up on old times.
I told him sure, it would be nice. He came up on the front porch, smiled, and I damn near shit! He only had 3 teeth in his mouth…snaggle puss, gezzzzzz.
He told me going to Viet Nam and afterwards he really got into crack that’s why he didn’t have any teeth left. No job, no insurance.
So the moral of the story is, if you are going to spend your money on crack, give it to me instead and we’ll toss a party for the JTI group….wooohooo!
I survived, he was really fast, had to pull many... so far I'm still numb from my chin to my forehead, not looking forward to it waking up, sending youngest for drugs...going to be quite an adjustment, root canal Thursday and crown prep Friday, figured I should cram it all in into one week or I might become a flight risk.
Toad.....I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved pet. I know you made the right decision, as Mary said, you will know it when the time arrives. After all...it is about them and not about us. Your dog was very lucky to have you. You did not turn your back on him.
Losing a dog is so hard, as they give so very much and ask for absolutely nothing. All they want is to be you Buddy. They love so unconditionally. That is why God spelled backwards is Dog.
So sorry Toad, about Ret. After going through having to put Harley down, I know exactly on how you feel. I don't how many times I've tried to write up a eulogy and just couldn't do it. The feelings still quite raw still.

LM - wishing you both good luck and competent medical care, you will look great on wedding day
Toad - How sad, Ret will be welcome in doggy haven. May RET rest in peace.
Lizardmom - Good luck all week. Going to the dentist is not as painful as it used to be, but it still isn't fun.

Oh by the way, I go this Thursday to have my permanent cap put on my tooth, I had a dang cavity under the old one.... :(

And might I point out SER, you are terrible! Funny though.....
Holy crap Lizardmom, you’re going to have to get your own tank of nitrous oxide....
