"PMU - Assassination Of President John F. Kennedy Commercial"

"The commercial is for PMU, a French online betting and gambling website.

"I have a pretty dark sense of humor, but I think this spot may be stepping over the line just a smidge — mainly because an unseen subsequent image of this Dealey Plaza scenario is the exploded head of President John F. Kennedy, an image many of us have now seen.

"The spot is probably only airing on French TV, but as of today, it's airing all over the world on YouTube.

"My critique of the ad simply as an ad is: The joke is forced, not that funny, and doesn't tie back to product well at all.

"A second less-disturbing commercial makes light of the Titanic disaster.

"Ad agency: Publicis Conseil, Paris."



I must say that I was offended by this commercial.  I'm not easy to offend.  The JFK assassination was a personal event for me.  I was a kid and watched it all unfold on TV.  It hurt.  I'll never forget it.

  1. That is flat out wrong and very offensive. Like you Orbs, I remember that time very well. Hard to believe memories are so vivid after 50 years.

  2. It certainly isn't funny. I would guess few people 50 and younger will give a shit. Little do they know, the ENTIRE World changed forever that day, and has, and never will be the same. I will ALWAY'S believe THIS was the day AMERICA died.

  3. My dad was crushed by the JFK assassination. He never voted again, after working so hard in earlier years to gain citizenship and the right to vote.

    The commercial is for the French, so I suppose they may find it humorous.

  4. Orb's, I really wonder what the number would be, of Americans that were alive, and could understand In 1963? They would probably have to been born In the mid to late 50s.

  5. The best data I can find pretty much say's 100 million people are old enough to remember JFK. Figures from the 2010 Census. That means over 2/3 of the country has no clue. France probably has a larger percentage, because they drink so much wine.
