I wouldn't say our senses lie to us so much as that is just how they work.
I used to dabble in magic and was constantly amazed at what people didn't see. Pro-tip: If a magician offers to do a trick for you a second time, that's a lie. You know what to look for so in reality the magician is doing an entirely different trick to stay a step ahead of you.
I used to love playing jokes on people using distraction. I would do things like try to steal everyone's fork before the food arrived at a restaurant. It's amazing how easy it is.
