Richard C. Duncan, Ph.D. Institute on Energy and Man, June 27, 1996
In 1989, I concluded that the life-expectancy of Industrial Civilization is horridly short. This hypothesis was defined in terms of a measurable index, world energy-use per person, and named the "transient-pulse theory of Industrial Civilization." I sketched its maximum point at 1990, followed by a persistent decline (see Note 1).
It has often been said that, if the human species fails to make a go of it here on Earth, some other species will take over the running. In the sense of developing high intelligence this is not correct. We have, or soon will have, exhausted the necessary physical prerequisites so far as this planet is concerned. With coal gone, oil gone, high-grade metallic ores gone, no species however competent can make the long climb from primitive conditions to high-level technology. This is a one-shot affair. If we fail, this planetary system fails so far as intelligence is concerned. The same will be true of other planetary systems. On each of them there will be one chance, and one chance only. (Hoyle, 1964; emphasis added)
Very tumultuous and quite scary as to what the future will deliver and the powerful forces existing beyond our control. Makes problems like local politics minute in the big picture.
We all need to step back and take a firm unwavering look and know the importance of kindness to fellow Living beings and offer comfort. We should veer away from negativity And go for the gusto in thought, word, and deed for the full betterment Of all.

If my memory serves me correctly, this is a theme with which others have made videos about their own personal lives and have posted to youtube. I think I may have posted something on this in the past after seeing it on the news. I looked briefly, but I couldn't find the reference.
