Four years ago, I bought an upgrade to Windows 7 on sale
from Microsoft. The plan was to install 7
on my then-computer, after I beefed up its hardware. It soon became apparent that it would be a
waste of money to spend any on an obsolete machine. The Windows 7 upgrade went into the closet
and wasn’t heard from again.
I recently moved and the upgrade resurfaced. Coincidentally, I bought a used computer
after my old one crashed just before my move. It was offered with either Vista
or XP installed. I chose XP. The new used machine can handle 7.
Microsoft support for XP ends this April. I’m going to have to reformat this hard drive
again, because I interrupted the installation of a program. After I reinstall XP, I’ve been thinking
about upgrading to 7.
I have zero knowledge about 7. So I was wondering if those of you have used
it would give me your opinion of it. I
really like XP and have no problems with it.
How does 7 compare to XP?

Orbs, I installed Windows 7 shortly after it was available. Vista professional was installed originally in my computer, vista did not work well with me. Windows 7 is the preferred choice of Andromodo and that makes it good enough for me. I like 7.
I remember when Vista first came out, I wanted to upgrade. Then I started reading the reviews. I'm glad I waited. 7 was supposed to be everything that Vista was meant to be. I heard good things about 7.
I too loved XP but had to switch to '7. took a while but I like it.
I'm still babying my computer with XP, although I've heard good things about 7. I know what I want to do and how to do it on my computer. I hate having to search and screw around trying to figure out how to make it WORK! My patience seems to dwindle with each passing year... ;>
When I got the Kindle, there was a credit card sized manual that came with it. It said, "Swipe to begin." No kidding, that was it. I suffered weeks of frustration and I'm still a little confused with the cloud vs. device installation. I'm pretty sure I'm not using it to its maximum because I've kind of given up. If I want music, I go to Pandora, I've never loaded my music to the cloud. I've talked to other young people and they say the same.
I see now that the newer models come with some sort of panic button to a real person to help you out. I must not be alone in my frustration. This machine is neat in its portability, but sucks in management of the device and in app function.
I guess my whole point is, you might eventually like the upgrade, but prepare for some frustration.
I don't think your XP will be unusable, just won't be supported by Microsoft should you need help with It?
We've been using 7 for quite some time now.. I dont remember anything specific about the differences between them but after XP I really liked 7, I was not a fan of XP at all..
I know XP won't be unusable, just unsupported. I've thought of staying with XP, too. As I said, I like it very much.
On the other hand, I already have the 7 upgrade. At one time I was looking at used computers on eBay that had Vista for an operating system. I figured they'd sell a little cheaper and I could immediately upgrade to 7. This machine is the one I was looking for. I don't remember thinking about the upgrade when I bought this computer, but it's a perfect candidate. The graphics card isn't the greatest, but then neither are my eyes.
We have had 7 for awhile now and it is really good no problems. When our old computer crash and we had this one built we made sure that 7 was put in it right away. I really like it a lot.
