You haven't described what "The American Dream" is.

You just stated it, as though all of us should know what it is.

I honestly don't know what it is. I would argue that most Americans are locked in a nightmare of Planetary destruction.

You celebrate that? Conspicuous consumption? Environmental degradation? Binding your children into long term debt for your wants of today? The Weaponization of nuclear physics with the ability to make a Planet - Planet Earth uninhabitable for the majority of current lifeforms?

Really?

Measured in what? Dollars?

Something to think about:

Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

So, by borrowing today, to meet today's needs, or wants today, from the future, doesn't unfairly encumber the future?

LOL. Of course it does.

We often get told how good we have it, and to many lengths, many Americans do. Other countries also have their benefits and their deficits.

We certainly don't take care of our people as they age. I saw that firsthand with my parents.

More and more, it appears that we are greed orientated and are lacking compassion. We want to have the brightest, most innovative and highly trained workforce, but we shove all of societies problems into a classroom and expect magic to happen.... all the while we complain that teachers are overpaid and have it too good.

In that case, no amount is great enough.

I suggest we give all, for your needs.

Your needs and those of your parents in their last days are #1 and even the needs of small children shall be overridden, because after all. Aren't resources on a finite Planet unlimited?
