Remember our deceased loved ones through prayer, church, cemetery visits, displaying your flag, planting a flower or a tree in a memory garden.
My favorite poem.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
I went to the cemetery yesterday to put an urn of flowers on my father's grave. There are not many WWII graves anymore with personal decoration. I find that sad.
I spruced up my mom's and grandmother's grave, too. I found my aunts and uncle's graves and pulled out the weeds. (It looked like no one has bothered for years.)
When we were kids my father's mother always took us to the cemetery on Sundays in the summer. They tended their relatives graves. I don't think we instill enough respect in our children anymore. Put a cell phone in their hands and forget about educating them. Let Google and Facebook do it.
Remember that Memorial day is a day to reflect and pause, to show respect to the ones that sacrificed so much so we could live in freedom Thanks veterans
time to get some Lee Greenwood playing, good stuff! So cool to see veterans come in with their hats showing where they served, they wear them with such pride and I'm always so humbled by their service. Thank you is not nearly enough!
A free Monday...well it should be a day of remembrance
ReplyDeleteHave a good day everyone
I'm working today, if only I could keep my eye lids in an upright position :)

ReplyDeleteHello, world.
ReplyDeleteI think any business that offers a "Memorial Day Sale" should be shuttered.
Thank you, veterans, thank you, thank you, thank you.
I went to the cemetery this morning and there were a lot of people there. Old and young alike.
