"Changes are coming to Wisconsin's Do Not Call Registry effective Aug. 1, the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection said Friday.
"Users will no longer be required to register their phone numbers every two years, and their numbers will be placed on the national list aimed at preventing unwanted telemarketing calls and text messages.
"Consumers can sign up once and not have to worry about whether their registrations lapse.
"Also, new registrations will be handled by the Federal Trade Commission's national Do Not Call list, and those registrations will become effective the following day rather than weeks later, as was sometimes the case with the Wisconsin list.
"Telemarketers covered by the list have up to 31 days from the date you register to stop calling you on your land line or cellphone."

Horseshit! I've been on both registries since their inception and I get 3 to a half-dozen, or more, telemarketer calls a day. I never answer and they never leave a message. If you Google their phone numbers, you see that there have been hundreds of complaints. The Do Not Call Registries are a joke (or scam).

It is about time that the process is made easier. I never know how long it has been since I "upped" my registry.
I agree, many companies still use auto-dialers and call despite being on the list. I can only imagine how many calls I'd get if I wasn't on the list. I think the second half of the law needs to be worked on, and made simpler. The part where you report abusers and they are supposedly fined.
When I'm working during the daytime hours, I don't notice it so much. There might be a message, but more often, I think there isn't. Being home, I am surprised how much the phone rings.
It is much harder to deal with when you have a family or personal issue going on. You never know what that next call might be. You find your heart beating and run to get the phone. It can be more than annoying to find someone trying to scam or sell to you.
I've still been getting those Indian accent calls from "Microsoft" warning me my computer is uploading malicious code. Hmmmm. That scam is so old... you'd think no one would fall for it anymore.
i had one on my cell phone and asked her where she got the number from and remove it from her list. She told me it was an auto dialer and it was random. I told her to un-randomize it and hung up. never got a call back from them
I don't know about my home phone, you get the answering machine and a short message then it hangs up so you can't even leave a message.
Apparently these lists have been around for a looooong time. I just got a call yesterday for my father. He passed away 34 years ago.
Lately is seems I'm getting more calls than ever.
And if I EVER get my hands on Rachael from Card Holder Services, we're gonna have words. It could get ugly, I may need bail money.
Rachael had a pretty good hold on me for awhile. Not sure what I did to shake loose of that. No court would convict you, DodgeBoy, if you took her out.
I was wondering the same thing... I've always put my phone numbers on the do not call registry, yet I get these calls to buy shit, donate here, give money there, and then some other weird stuff wanting me to do surveys and get a loan... But then again, I have an ex that likes to get loans or buy stuff on credit, not pay for it, but MY Phone number goes on his application, so when they start calling for collection, they call my house to ask for him... I already said that I'm going to file a civil complaint in court. It's actually slowed some, but, now I'm wondering if these companies actually don't care, or if he's putting my number out there to be called...
