THIS is Harry, the feathered version.
THIS Harry, is a juvenile Black Crowned Night Heron.
Drew was able to get these amazing pictures for us.
Drew and THB came to our rescue and ID'd this guy, who
was hanging around a lagoon for a couple hours
when my sister and I were down there
this past Monday.
Not to be confused with our own featherless "Harry"...
Guess there can't be only one, sorry!

The adult looks something like this. (picture taken at Horicon Marsh 7 20 2014)
It is a descent find, considering they hunt mostly at dawn or dusk and roost in trees near marshes and out of sight by day. If it were a Yellow Crowned Night Heron, the lagoon would be filled with birders from all the state
just to get a glimpse. (I have never seen a YCNH)
A local (and inexperienced) birder confused this to a juvenile Green Heron. (Goes to show how tricky IDing birds can be)
I've been amazed on how tame this particular bird is.... Standing behind fishermen on the pier. I think it's looking for handouts.
Anyways liz, I'm extremely glad you are enjoying this sighting. I get this way at times!

I'm rather sad he will lose his present coloring, I think he's perfect just the way he is :( Harry is doing fine, just got a little pestered by those little mink kids, no manners...
Oh Legal, there can't be only one... you're our favorite, until I get down by the lake, then my new feathered BFF wins, sorry dude... :)
It was more fun when we had the option to think of our "featherless" friend who was spotted haunting downtown areas by the lake.
