"some kind deal" to users of the three operating systems to entice them
to move away from legacy platforms. Such a deal, she writes, could be in
the form of a free upgrade.

kickstart transitions from older platforms to newer ones in the past,
but given the large contingent of Windows XP users out there, a freebie
might lure them to Windows 9 - rather than Google Chrome or Apple's OS
X."

But wouldn't that piss off all the people who paid for Windows 8?

Windows 8 sucks, just like vista did.
Most of us who are running the, as they call it, legacy platforms are doing it on older equipment. I would venture to guess that many of these machines would not accommodate the upgrade?
You could be right, kk. The newer the Operating System, the more RAM and cpu power they could want.
Windows 7 is beginning to sound better and better, but it won't support much of my software, including the Microsoft stuff. I can't afford the new software.
I'm in the same boat.
Maybe I'm crazy, but very recently, I noticed a windows update (malicious software removal) It surprised me as they said they would no longer support XP.
Windows 7 works well for me.
BLB has windows 8 on her computer, not as user friendly as 7
XP served me well for the years I had it.
