Open Blog - Labor Day

Today is the last day that you're supposed to wear white. From here on, the white drops down on us out of the sky.

I think the restriction on when you can and can't wear white was lifted... unless it is white shoes and white belts, along with a baby blue leisure suit. By the way, my dad sported that look in the 70's and it was spectacular!

I remember when you use to get free ice cream on labor day from the unions....

OMG SER - It was at Douglas Park, wasn't it? I remember Cracker Jack as well.

BTW, the white restriction has been lifted, according to Tim Gunn. Although my late Aunt is probably spinning in her grave over that one. She used to be horrified when people wore white after Labor Day. Stupid rule. Especially when you live down here at temps are in the mid nineties for most of the week.

Have a great Labor Day Irregulars.

I just remember the big honking SloPoke suckers from the Doll Buggy Parade. My family must not have participated in the Labor Day festivities at Douglas Park. (We were south-siders)

I'm not packing up my tightly whities, lol.

I remember the Ice Cream, and Cracker Jack well at Douglas Park, compliments of the Local Unions. Many of us OLD TIMERS, can thank those Unions for everything our family had. Including our WORK ETHIC.

I always went to parades and we had a big carnival right before
school started. I twirled the baton in the parade, in a group called THe Royal Lancers.....I miss that. But I missed out on the free candy, too.

One time after throwing the baton up in the air I missed the catch and it hit me right across the front teeth. I did survive with no chips.

all this talk of ice cream is almost more than I can handle, Baskin may have to be part of today's plan! World Class Chocolate is the absolute best! SO good!
thanks guys...

I grew up in the middle of numerous cabbage fields, I didn't know they had fun stuff going on Labor Day, I led such a sheltered life... missed out on candy, ice cream, parades... how did I make it out alive?? :D

BLB, Now that was clever. I think the only thing worse than two cabbage farms, would be between two Pig farms.

ahaha! Toad, I wish it were just 2 cabbage fields, but it was one beside, one across the street, one behind and one on the other side of the next door neighbor, when it was time for spraying, you couldn't keep that wicked smell out of the house to save your lives... it was horrible! We were surrounded with nowhere to hide :(
My sisters and I all had cabbage patch dolls, and to this day, never put together that irony of the name, Hilarious!

Oh wow OKIE, I done forgot about the Cracker Jack.

It was a festive time, all the city parks had supervisors, I think that's what they were called, and they held "Doll buggy parades". Put all that colored paper in the spokes on you bike, cover the handle bars, the more stuff you could put on your bike or wagon made you super cool.
