The monsoons here have left a few people high and dry, but thousands
more are experiencing crop failure for lack of water.
It’s time to remind drivers, wet leaves can be as slippery
as black ice. Watch out for the kids.
I’m very disappointed in the summer weather we “enjoyed”
this year. That’s all we can do about it: complain. It’s rained for the last two days and that knocked
a lot of foliage off of the trees.
I have fond memories of burning the leaves in the fall. A doctor of the highest caliber once told me that smells are our strongest, primal sensor.And I also have fall memories of my favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. Wearing their hat gives you the privilege to shout out a hoot and a holler every now and again. They slaughtered the Miami Dolphins last weekend. Now, this Sunday the great Packers take on the Carolina Panthers at 7:30 PM on Carolina turf. Slaughter them, too, please.
I see from the front page of the newspaper and on many local TV stations, that there was a mini-riot at the Housing Authority of Racine County because they started accepting applications.. It's rather embarrassing, seeing so many turn out so early (many slept overnight). It speaks to the poverty of our community.
I hope we see a healthy number of challengers to Mr. Mayor Dickert. I'd love to see a clean race.
Ha.
In the meantime I have to assume that anything goes.

Madame Z- I really don't want to correct you but the Packers are playing at home Sunday at Noon.
I know I seen the mini riot that afternoon I went down Main St. and I didn't even know that was going on otherwise I would have gone a different way down there. The police were just standing there while people are pushing and shoving other people with kids. I said to my daughter what are they doing standing there with their thumbs up their butts. I am sorry to say that but that is what it looked like.
Leaves as black ice, oh ya they can be dangerous; turning and stopping you can slide quite easily.
Wet leaves are great for Smud Pots. you can smoke up a street in no time.
Madame, GOOD idea you mentioning the wet leaves being slippery. A very long time ago a friend of my wife's parents was riding In a car with her husband, and had a lap full of those old 78 lp's. They slid on the leaves and a record nearly removed her head, and It killed her.
Holy. Moley, Toad, that's awful.
Black ice Is common here in the winter (our dry season). I've slid more than once...scary. I have seen multiple accidents as a result of a heavy foot on the brake!
We still have rain, BUT, Okie, I hear that we will only hit 86 tomorrow with a low in the 60's. About time.
Madame, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I read today that the lakes are 6 degrees colder than normal. Sounds like another cold winter.
Yikes, Okie.think I will stay in Florida until late spring.
Beejay, Indeed "Holy Moley" She was my MIL best friend. She was from a well known family In the old day's of Racine. She would be about 98 now.
"Holy Moley Rollers" would be a good Roller Derby team name.
Black ice is scary as hell. We hit it on an overpass, headed to Chicago. All of a sudden, you realize that you are not in control of the vehicle. I hydroplaned once and it's a similar sensation/realization.
