Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my esteemed readers!  How are you?  The colors outdoors and in the pictures that Ms. Tender Heart Bear posted below are stark reminders of fall.  Darn it.  The colors are pretty, but I’d trade them for more heat.  I’d pay $100 for a box of Girl Scout cookies (Thin Mints), if it guaranteed no winter, or less winter than usual.  Unfortunately, we know I can’t do that.  I don’t have the money and I’m not that stupid.  I grew up when words still meant something.

My friends and local gardeners did pretty well.  I think the worst I’ve heard about here equals about average output.  “If only it was a little warmer.” Yes, that big, old lake affects weather all us around and in it.  It’s almost always “cooler by the lake.”  Such areas are called microclimates and often allow you to grow things that a person out in the country couldn’t.  And vice-versa.

It seems like a rip-off because summer stayed cool.  Also, is it a harbinger of a cold winter?  The Weather Witch isn’t talking.

What is sure is that our kings of the field, the Green Bay Packers, spanked the butts and kicked the asses of the Minnesota Vikings.  Now, after ten days off (not good in my book), our valiant Packers will meet the Miami Dolphins at noon on Sunday, October 12, at the Dolphins, coverage by FOX.

I’m going with my beloved Packers; I just have to.  Go Pack!

Thank you all for your advice.  And thank you for caring bout me.

Thank you all for helping.

  1. Madame Z- We are family and we will always care about one another. Thank you for mentioning my Fall pictures. I do love the change in the color but do not like the cold weather that comes along with it.

  2. Just returned to FL from SC. It was 84 at 7:00 p.m. Summer is still here. I want some cooler weather. Don't get me wrong, 84 for a high would be great, but it's 91 until about six. Low will da ove 70 tonight. Sixty five would be just fine.

  4. I really don't mind the cool weather, love to throw on a sweater, or pull on another blanket at night. The lack of sunshine and the length of winter gets me, and the shoveling. I enjoying hanging around the abode, but don't like the idea that I can't get out because of snow or deathly cold.

Madame, we care. Hope things are well with you. Has junior started looking at colleges? My, how the years are flying by. He was just a youn'un when we first met.

  5. I really dislike winter. I don't mind a little snow but the temp should never go below freezing.

  6. We have a Frost Warning for tonight. I don't understand a Frost Warning? Does that mean a person should think about taking the Tomato's In? DUH. My neighbors were gone for a week, and had beautiful Tomato's on their vines. I was going to steal them, but they just rotted on the vine. I'm still a bit angry about It. Madame. Perhaps your a World traveler, If so, stay the hell away from Africa. We don't need no sucking Ebola.

  7. Am I the only one who felt it kind of irresponsible to have our reporters and Dr. Nancy Snyderman risk exposure by going there, where there was an outbreak, to report on it?

Now, we are bringing these sick people back to several U.S. cities and furthering our risk of potentially spreading it here.

I really feel for the people who are doing humanitarian work to care for the sick, but would it be better to somehow build a temporary hospital and offer better care, or the latest experimental treatments over there?
