Useless Information


Did you know:

 Back in the early 60’s when President Kennedy put an embargo on Cuba, he waited until he took possession of 1,200 Cuban cigars.

I was on a business trip to Germany and you can buy Cuban cigars over there.

I bought $300.00 worth and put them on top over everything in my carryon.

Going through US Customs, the agent opened my bag, looked at all the Cigars, zipped it back closed and with a big smile he said, Welcome to the United States.

My mom, at the age of about 86, bought some on a cruise. Brought them home for my brother. Again, no problem. She did this regularly when she visited the Caribbean.

Well maybe in the next few years we will be able to travel to Cuba. Not on my bucket list but you never know.

The poverty there would be what keeps me away. I hope, for humanity sake that this new "understanding" will make for a better life for them; at the same time, I hope it does't put more of a drain on our economy. We have plenty of needy people here, and good causes that would welcome our help.

As for the cigars... I don't really care. Don't plan on smoking a stogie. ;> But, if I could get my hands on some of that banana rum that I brought back from the bahamas. Whoa.

I used to smoke cheap cigars when I got drunk. "Crookettes" were my favorite.

KK, I lived on St. Croix...not as poor as Cuba, but I am definitely familiar with poverty in the Caribbean...remember St. Croix is a U.S. territory...not many people realized the U.S. has ares that are that poverty stricken (and it is worse than when I lived there as the huge oil refinery closed)

Oh, and I always brought back plenty of Cruzan rum every time I came back...very cheap!
