“'Stop the Madness'-Know something? Say something! Solve Racine’s robberies and homicide"
From RacineUncovered:
"Law enforcement has recorded a total of 21 incidents combined between the two communities, but so far, tips from citizens who might have information have been slow to come in to help police apprehend the suspects.
"A total of up to $6,500 in reward money is being offered to the individual(s) who provide the tip(s) that lead to the arrest of the suspects responsible for these crimes.
"Board members of Crime Stoppers of Racine County recently approved a maximum reward of up to $1,500.
"Two local business owners, who wish to remain anonymous, for now are each putting up $500 of their own money, and members of the Racine Tavern League have committed to a $4,000 contribution.
“'We believe strongly in helping law enforcement apprehend these people,' one of the business owners said. 'Business owners and customers are worried, and that’s not good for business or our community.'”

"Drivers Be Aware: Traffic Enforcement in Full Effect"
From Racine County Eye:
By Heather Asiyanbi in Government · June 13, 2014
"Area police officers are stepping up patrols as part of a statewide push to reduce traffic-related deaths.
"The Joint Speed and Alcohol Grant administered by the state Bureau of Traffic Safety covers overtime for officers at 100 percent so police can step up patrols of intersections to target speeding, drivers who aren’t wearing their seat belts, and drivers operating under the influence.
“'To prevent needless deaths and injuries, our officers will be out in force throughout the county as a cooperative effort looking for speeding and impaired motorists along with other unsafe driving behavior,' said Mount Pleasant police Captain Brian Smith.
"MPPD is the fiscal agent for the grant, and officers from Sturtevant, Racine, Wisconsin State Patrol, Waterford, Burlington, and the Racine County Sheriff’s Department are participating in the push. It started last month and runs through September.
"During the grant period, officers from these agencies will patrol across jurisdictions and conduct deployments in the participating communities.
"Smith said a recent speed deployment on Spring Street in the City of Racine netted a number of citations. Officers staged another deployment in Mount Pleasant Friday.
"Sturtevant police Chief Sean Marschke noted 240 traffic calls/stops in that village in May and credits part of the increase to his department’s participating in the grant initiative.
“'We actually expect that number to rise because of the grant,' he said.
"Aside from increasing safety on area roadways, there is a financial gain for the communities where stops are being made. Marschke told village trustees that citations issued in Sturtevant means fines paid to the village no matter if the officer initiating the stop is from Sturtevant or not."

A Sincere Thank You, and an Incessant Rant from a Mad Woman...
First off, I'd like to say a HUGE and sincere thank you for allowing me to take part of the JT-Irregulars blogging group. It is an honor to be able to participate in such a diverse group of intellectual bloggers. I welcome intelligent discussion, whether you agree or disagree, and I welcome everyone who comments, to feel free to discuss your view point, because even if we disagree, I think understanding where the other side is coming from, is the key to being able to be more of the community that we all want. A special thank you goes to "Lizard Mom", that I met at a Rely Local luncheon at Z's, for making this special invite...
I'd like to introduce myself as Lika, a mother of a pretty good 14 year old, and the founder of a registered 401c4 nonprofit called Youth Voice Initiative (YVI). YVI was formed, to create social change to ensure that our children are not to be viewed as "property" of the parent(s) or legal guardian(s), to hold accountable child perpetrators. From there, will be able to influence the legal system from the law makers, to the law practitioners, to the law interpreters, so we can stiffen up on those who abuse our children. Too often, we don't want to "get involved", when we most often need to, since childhood abuse can lead to higher rates of drug and alcohol addiction and suicide than the rest of society. Of these, sex and psychological abuses are the worst, and the victims are either blamed or ignored, enforcing the non-involvement to further victimize the abused child or survivor of child abuse. I blog often, and would like to invite you to my blog site as well, here on blogger, Lika's Laments to take part in discussion, as well.
Anyway, even after this, I am really concerned about these 12 year olds who stabbed the other girl, after reading and playing into this Slenderman myth, found at creepypasta.com. What gets me, is, it doesn't seem as if the parents were even slightly concerned where on the internet these girls went. I allowed my son, who was almost 13 at the time, to finally get a facebook account, and I had ours linked together. I also insisted that the friends list only included people I knew, or, even if I didn't, that someone such as his grandpa (who is a pastor) could vouch for, so there is no one there to raise an eyebrow. And yes, I have the log in information, and yes, I do spy on his account. If he changes his password or other settings on his profile, I get an email message that this happened. I'm his mother, and it's my job. My husband has parental controls set up, so he can see where my son goes while he's online. I don't care if it sounds invasive, protective, or strict. If the other parents would have done this, they could have intervened about the stabbing.
Worse yet, didn't any of the parents, teachers, classmates, guidance counselors, etc... notice that the behaviors of these girls were off? No one heard them discussing the urban myth? No one knew about the plans of these two wanting to make a sacrifice by stabbing another classmate who was supposed to be a friend? Didn't the parents teach their kids the difference between right and wrong? I remember taking a psychology class in high school. I learned that little kids, at the age of 3, understand the basic differences between right and wrong. At age 5, kids have polished up that knowledge, even when they're being brutally honest. Being that young, they haven't learned the concept of when it is it okay to tell little white lies, such as telling someone that their outfit is too little for them, when a young woman in their 20's is dressed a bit on the skimpy side, or that it's not nice to blurt out the fact that the color you're wearing doesn't look good on you. But, aside from that, they know that lying, hitting and stealing is bad. Telling the truth, paying for what you want, and keeping your hands to yourself is good. So, why didn't these12 year olds know? It's possible that the one is mentally ill. Yet, if you look at them, they are NOT the innocent little girls that 12 year olds ought to be. I also think their parents should have to account for part of the girls' bad judgement, especially because of the severity of the crime. Another little girl has a lot of therapy to go through, and it shouldn't be up to her family to have to foot the bill. The girls' who did the stabbing and their parents should be held financially responsible. As for the outcome of the actual stabbing case? We shall follow the news on the court proceedings. May justice rule.

"Anderson Cooper tries a schizophrenia simulator"
I have friend in Kenosha who is schizophrenic. Not only does she hear voices, but she gets visual hallucinations, too. I can't imagine what it's like to live with that 24 hours a day.
Dear Madame Zoltar
Hello, my busy bees!
How are you? I think last winter
broke the thermostat of weather control central. It’s June and some trees are just beginning
to bud out. It’s still cool at night,
which is OK with me. I sleep better in a cool room. With a hot man. Oh my.
Public Service Announcement:
Lock your doors, windows, cars and garages. Hide in your bomb shelter. If you don’t have one, get under your bed and
pray that the robbers won’t get you. It
really has gotten out of hand. Theft, by
burglary or robbery, has risen dramatically in Racine. Now murder has been added to the mix. People are tense. And some establishments are locking and
unlocking their doors only for known customers.
It’s like the city is locking down.
Señor Zanza says that his business has not done well
lately. I still don’t even know what
business he’s in. He seems to have a lot
of money and he likes to share it with others.
That’s nice. I don’t think he’s
let me pay the bill at any restaurant ever.
My mysterious Mr. Señor Zanza.
Junior, of course, can’t wait for summer vacation to start. He becomes more and more restless with each
passing day. I think he might explode
before or on the last day of school. I’ve
tried teaching him relaxation strategies, but I don’t think his heart rate will
slow down before summer vacation. I’ll
advise him then to get a summer job.
Unfortunately, in this economy, he doesn’t have much chance. He’ll be competing with college graduates for
menial work. But I want him to have real
world experiences even if it’s just looking for a summer job. He must make getting a job a job.
I’ve never seen such a scarcity of jobs in Racine. You have to know someone already working
somewhere to get in. A lot of people are
doubling up with others to save money.
Every penny counts. The recession
is supposedly long over, but you don’t see much evidence locally.
Mr. Mayor Dickert is all over the Journal Times’ site
today. He and some other very important
people had a little tent set up and importantly informed us that they’re going
to develop along the Root River
as their next scheme. This will benefit
us greatly and essentially save Racine. Mr. Mayor’s 10 Year Plan is working.
Thank you all for stopping by today. I love you all so much that I want to hug
each one of you. Maybe at the next
get-together? Thank you, again, for
reading my blog.
Can’t find a job?

The weather is supposed to keep us drenched all day. The rest of the week looks good. Get out there and show them some JTI swagger! Ventoseness!

"Thousands of naked bicyclists stage festive Portland protest ride"
Cyclists pour into the streets of Portland for the 11th annual World Naked Bike Ride June 7, 2014. Credit: REUTERS/Steve Dipaola |
From Reuters:
"(Reuters) - Thousands of bicyclists, many of them stark naked, poured into the streets of Portland, Oregon on Saturday night for the 11th annual World Naked Bike Ride, a protest that promotes bike riding as an alternative to driving cars.
"Nude cyclists with lights flashing in their tire spokes rang bells as they barreled down avenues lined with cheering spectators, while a naked, apparently pregnant woman rode in a bike trailer.
"'This is a party, but it's also a protest,' said Carl Larson, a ride spokesman. 'It is about oil dependence, cycling vulnerability and body' image.
"Cyclists showed up in Normandale Park an hour before the ride, shedding garments according to the ride theme 'as bare as you dare'.
"The rides are held in more than 75 U.S. cities and in more than 20 other countries, but Portland's is believed to be the largest, with more than 8,000 participants last year.
"But unlike events in other cities, the Portland ride works with local police, being considered as a protest. Officers direct traffic during what is generally a trouble-free event."

Racine should hold an event like this, with the addition of alcohol, of course.
